So what's happening in Canada that piques your interest these good old days?

Budget 2025?

BC court affirming Cowichan title?

Poppy Ban Debate?

This thread is open for uniquely Canadian context.

I am finding the Property Title disputes interesting - though I don't really understand the nuance of it all.

Flash Back:

Remarks by Mark Carney
Governor of the Bank of Canada
to the International Economic Forum of the Americas
Conference of Montreal
11 June 2009

The theme of this conference—“Adapting to a New World Order”
Conclusion:

There is every reason that Canada should be among the first to implement the agenda that I have described today. Through such leadership, we can do our part to create a more responsible, resilient globalization.

Does this line up with Budget 2025?

All is nuance ... a bit cloudy because of what we "know for sure!"

It just isn't so ... because of having mental limits! Some get it ... determining factor, or a factor in determination?

I am not sure about that ... others say they have the entire thing in hand ... and still others "believe"!

In the meantime ... a point in the medium ... if you observe ... not much is believable! Mortals base much on what lies in the ground of being ... dirt and mire ... thus a portion are baffled by mortal behaviour! It appears to have no end ...

The Canadian military's Defence Mobilization Plan (DMP) to boost its ranks by 300,000, including training federal public servants, appears to be more than just a suggestion but has not yet been fully implemented or officially confirmed as a finalized policy.

Based on the available information, the Canadian military's Defence Mobilization Plan (DMP) to expand the Supplementary Reserve, including the training of 300,000 federal public servants, relies primarily on voluntary enlistments.

This could happen as early as late 2025 or early 2026, depending on legislative and preparatory progress.

Start monitoring these channels if you want to be among the first to apply when the opportunity arises!

Which will likely be its downfall. Countries with large, active reserves tend to be ones that make it mandatory (Israel, Switzerland, some of the Nordic countries). Very few in Canada want to put in the time to do military training as a career, let alone give up their leisure and work time for it. Else we'd have a much bigger standing military and reserves. But introducing mandatory reserve service would likely bring down the government. So we'll keep muddling through, maybe offer more pay for time spent on training in hopes of attracting people that way.

The above post highlights a real Department of National Defence directive from early November 2025, proposing voluntary one-week training for up to 300,000 federal and provincial public servants in basic skills like firearms handling, truck driving, and drone operation to bolster the new Supplementary Reserve.

This reserve expansion addresses chronic Canadian Armed Forces recruitment shortfalls—down 16,000 active personnel since 2021—enabling surge capacity for emergencies without mandatory service, as outlined in the unclassified nine-page policy document.

How the Training is Outlined

  • Duration: The training is specified as a one-week course, as noted in the Ottawa Citizen article and the original post by Kirk Lubimov. This suggests a condensed, introductory program rather than an extensive military curriculum.
  • Voluntary Participation: The directive emphasizes that participation is voluntary, targeting public servants who opt into the Supplementary Reserve. After initial training, they are required to undertake one week of additional training annually to maintain readiness, though they will not be issued uniforms unless activated.
  • Directive Source: The plan is detailed in a DND directive signed by Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan and Deputy Minister Stefanie Beck on May 30, 2025.
