We have, to very good effect, begun, in the last five years, the practice of truly making our "work and worship one" by having the Annual Meeting embedded in the Sunday service last Sunday in January. We start 1/2 hour earlier than usual, and conclude with a potluck sandwich lunch (with soup, if I'm the chair, without, otherwise, it appears...). It's a wonderful way of doing the core "business" of the church with an attentive audience. We used to do it AFTER the potluck lunch and attendance tended to be dismal; also, it was an awfully long day for some. One drawback is if we have newcomers that day - despite everyone's best efforts, it's a slightly duller and longer service than usual. However, at least one of the newcomers today stayed for lunch, and seemed happy and friendly (she sat at the same table as I), so all's well...
Also, LAST.
