BA have you ever tried arm knitting? I've made 2 scarves that way. The drawback is that unlike conventional knitting you can't lay it down until you are fished. If you want to try it I'll hold last.

@Tabitha I've done spool-knitting, finger-knitting, arm-knitting, traditional knitting....niece and I made a couple of arm-knitted scarves last year...you can put it down - just need to put the loops over something.
