for jae, and going way back - I have many, many times driven between Montreal and southern New Brunswick. My best time was nine hours, all done without an overnight stop. 12 hours was more common. If I stayed overnight anywhere it was at the first sizable town in NB. (Can't remember the name of it, but quite impossible to miss.) I presume you're coming from Toronto. So, if you're going all the way to southern NB, that's a good sixteen hours. With family, that's a lot for two days.
On the way, you will come close to Riviere du Loup - so here's a historical note. There are many French families in that very French region who have Scottish names. And the main street is rue Fraser. "Why", you ask eagerly. That's because the 78th Fraser Highlanders who fought under Wolfe were demobilized in Quebec, the only British regiment ever disbanded outside Britain. That is because the highlands were restless at the time, and the British government had no intention of sending trained highlanders back to their homes. Many of them were given land to farm, and to build the town of Fraserville (now riviere du loup. ) I know this because I am a commissioned officer of the 78th Fraser Highlanders - with my eighteenth century rank of Captain-Lieutenant. And I look quite stunning in my kilt and mess jacket.

We do an eighteen hour trip from Toronto to Belledune, New Brunswick. Usually we stop for the night, but have driven it straight through on more than one occasion. This year we're planning on stopping in Drummondville, probably at the Cmfrt Inn.

Did some volunteer work at church and am now listening to an amazingly loud thunder storm. Hope it rains itself out as am volunteering again at 7 a.m. and don't want to get soaked riding my bike down to the church. Also, it is the penultimate longest day before the dreary decline to the shortest day in December. On the bright side, though I am last.

Wonderful. But Korea's a long drive, jae. You may need to pack a lunch.
As to Bethanne's suggestion that I send a photo of me in my kilt, I don't have one. I used to wear it for annual talks I gave at Robert Burns banquets for St. Andrew's society and other groups and, of course, for parade days. It was nice. I would be piped in, sit at the head table, young girls in highland costume would do the sword dance for me, then my ceremonial glass of scotch would be brought in, and I would propose the toast to the immortal memory.
Once, in the later stage of a supper, I retired briefly to the men's room. A very excited little man burst in, and said, "I saw you. I saw you across the room. And I thought, I must meet that man."
It was a jarring experience, particularly in the men's room. But he kept talking excitedly, easing my fears. It seems he was a very celebrated Scottish journalist who desperately wanted to get out of Scotland and work as a journalist in Canada. The full meaning of that dawned on me as I realized he was leading Scottish nationalist and ultra-patriot with something like a world reputation because he was the man who wrote a national anthem for an independent Scotland, and it became a best-seller around the world, "Scotland the Brave".
p.s. The also served haggis. If you ever have it, use lots of ketchup. Haggis needs all the help it can get.
