Contacted some other small newspapers in the area who aren't Black Press newspapers to see who their press is - Black Press and they are TICKED with the price increase

Not surprised if they are getting hammered as badly as you are.

The saga continues. One of the other freebies in the area uses a different press and they gave me their press guy's contact info. I emailed for a quote. They contract out some of their non-newspaper printing to Black Press so were well aware of the increased prices as they got slapped with an increase too...and they heard some customers had gotten hit with a 90% increase    My increase - while HUGE for me - works out to roughly 25%.

Anyway...got a quote and his numbers came in even HIGHER and they were almost $200 MORE than the new prices with the $200 increase :eek::eek::eek: And I'd have to pay shipping on top of that. Not an option and I'll stay with Black Press!

Also, sis's old boss is still sure that I can lease a copier and print it cheaper myself - I can't and I know that because of all the price quotes I got back in July/August when the press threatened to cut me off. Though, I found out she thought I was only getting 100 copies printed and I get 600 each time (now that the price isn't tied to the number of copies, I might/maybe/possibly go back up to my usual 700 copies).

YOu would want a fairly sophisticated unit, too, with collation and booklet printing features so that as much of the work could be automated as possible. Not cheap, let me tell you. We have one like that at our head office. They also break down a lot with that many moving parts, I find, so you're spending a lot of time waiting for techs to come in.

Plus, would such a unit fit in my house and that would also impact my electrical bill...there are lots of "hidden" costs associated with that option

Yeppers. Copiers aren't exactly thrifty in their hydro use. And you would want a good wired network connection between it and the computer, too, which probably means getting a guy like me in to make sure it is set up properly unless you're more of a computer geek than I think. :giggle:

Depends on what the particular situation is as to how geeky I am but generally speaking, I'd need a guy like you to set it up and be on perpetual standby in case things didn't work when I needed them to (cause techs aren't always prompt when you need them to be)

And with my luck, my computer probably wouldn't communicate with it as it's an older model
