In theory, I know how to darn. In practice, the resultant lumpy patches are quite uncomfortable underfoot.

Same. My parents got tired of me yelling "Damn" all the time so they taught me to "Darn".

I know the rules but I'm not exactly a stellar player. I once beat one of the top players in my high school, though. He didn't show up so I got it by forfeit.

The rules are not terribly complicated. The strategy is a whole different kettle of fish.

I know how to play it. My godfather taught me when I was about 7, I think. However, I never really developed the opportunity to see several potential moves down the road (a spatial thing, as much as anything), so I never got very good at it, nor enjoyed it much.

May I suggest backgammon?

Simple rules. Complex strategy. Big element of luck. It can be a gambling game or not.

I've played backgammon, as well; my youngest sister was into it for a few years. The only game I've played a LOT in my life is euchre. And it's luck coupled with strategy, as well.

Warm and muggy here for the next couple days as well. Could be worse, I guess. Mosquitoes are never too bad around the house but when I cut through the woods nearby on my walks, yeah.
