I think there's three on Netflix. There may be another live season. I'm not sure.
There are three seasons out. Season 4 just finished filming in February after delays due to the pandemic. Season 5 has been greenlit by Hulu (the US service that produces it) but has not yet started shooting. Per the Wiki article so usual cautions apply.

It amuses me that they can get five seasons of hourly shows from a relatively slim volume, even if the latter material is coming from The Testaments, also not a really long book (Atwood does not generally write tomes).

LAST as I take a break from chipping ice off the sidewalk

(confession - I dislike reading Atwood...and Alice Munro and other great Canadian authors)

Look, if Peter Jackson can get 3 3-hour movies out of The Hobbit, which was previously quite well done with a 90 minute TV cartoon, anything is possible.

BA, you might want to re-try Atwood. She's polished her style over the years, and I'd now describe her as a world (not just Canadian) master of the dystopian genre. Strangely enough, were I to suggest re-acquainting oneself with her, I'd start with the middle book of the MadAdam trilogy, "The Year of the Flood".

Her early stuff could be somewhat suffocatingly earnest, and often quite odd, especially if you get into her poetry.

I got hooked on Atwood when I was working in Toronto and spending an hour on the bus. I read Alias Grace and was off. She has an interesting perspective on the world and it's people. Sometimes I find her scarily prophetic. I read Oryx and Crake not long after it was published. I had to recover from it. I started the other two books in the series when I was still working and couldn't do it. I didn't need my stress level raised at the time. In fact, I found the Hulu Handmaid's Tale a little much when I was working. I'm handling it fine now. I don't know if I'm ready for the Orykx and Crake books.

Yeah, I think Oryx & Crake (first book) was the first Atwood I really liked enough to read through. Still haven't read the rest of the trilogy, though.

I liked Alias Grace. It was based on a real person and took place in Toronto and north. I liked how she left it open for the reader to decide whether Grace was guilty or a victim.

I've loved Atwood from the beginning, despite her early earnestness and oddness. I was trying to explain to BA how she'd developed.

Alice Munro has never been a fave of mine, but Margaret Laurence died far too young, with far too many books still in her.

Yes, Laurence is another one I dislike...I did give Atwood a second chance before I left the library world - she's still not my cup of tea...I do really like a lot of male Canadian writers - Max Braithwaite, Sinclair Ross, W.O. Mitchell, etc

I would say that my favorite "mainstream" Canadian writers are Leonard Cohen and Robertson Davies. However, we've produced some good genre fiction and some of my favorite CanLit comes from that group. Guy Gavriel Kay and Fonda Lee (lives in the US but grew up in Calgary and still a Canadian citizen) would be two of those.

I went on a Margaret Laurence binge too. I loved her small town stories. The Stone Angel was quite poignant

A week from today I'm going to be at a painting retreat.
I'm going to this weekend as a treat for myself.
I'll be with women from all over the world as we paint, learn about Hawaii, dance hula, connect to Spirit and have some fun.

It's always better to do things together. I'd love you to come with me. You can check it out here:

That actually sounds like fun. Hope you get some fun and new art out of it.
