I didn't like elementary, junior, high school even though I was a straight A, top of class stufentl...or university for that matter and I did all but one year by distance ed/online. I enjoy learning, I don't like studying or being taught. ;)
 
I've both hated and loved school. September has been a magical time of year for me at various times in my life. I'm not happy to see it arrive this year. I had a great summer, and was able to enjoy the month on the road. It feels ironically, like I missed a lot of summer. I guess that is because I missed summer here. There has also been a lot of cooler weather here. That might be a factor. I'm not looking forward to winter this year. Winter in these parts is getting old. Alas. I guess I will manage. :cool:

I just wish summer would LAST a little longer.
 
Many major life changes/events seem to have happened in September...almost more of a "new year" than Jan. 1st.
 
I like the school start up. Sept. is a time of new beginnings. Yesterday was first day back at work here. Students first day is today.
 
Recently read that when the calendar was first created, Jan and Feb were tagged on months at the end of the year...wonder why they changed that?

I can't say I loved learning in schools. And when it came to teachers, university teachers were the worst. - though I treasured one of them at graduate school. Fred Gibson had for some years been secretary to Mackenzie King. Nobody knew the history of that period better than Fred Gibson. He also respected his students, encouraged opposing views, and obviously loved teaching - uncommon qualities in a university teacher.
 
I come from a family with an extensive number of teachers (past and present) - mostly grade school not university.

Really? I have far more good memories of profs than of teachers at lower levels.

They may be uncommon in a university teacher but I saw them far more there than in high school. With a couple exceptions, most of my favorite teachers were in university.
 
I was a bit surprised to hear from my personal trainer that Sept is the month when she gets lots of people signing up/restarting, not Jan. Guess that's what happens in an area with lots of kids.
We have a new school here too, hoping that getting in/out won't be too bad. I do plan to avoid the start and end times, but it's not always easy to do and there's a day with early dismissal and the K is only a half day.
 
I also looked forward to starting a new year of university... though starting a new year of high school was always a drag.
 
On my first day at class, I sat toward the back of the room. The teacher, Miss Flower (really) called me to come the the front, and take the seat in front of her desk. ("teacher's pet', muttered somebody. but that didn't bother me. I didn't know what it meant.)
Many years later, I led the service at a church north of Montreal. As I shook hands at the door, a lady came forward. It was Miss Flower. She remembered the seating incident.
"You were so cute, and it was such a class of ruffians, I wanted to protect you."
Yes. Even then, women found me irresistable. And it was a pretty tough class. One had to be in that district.
