Can't remember if I told you fine folk but mom was being reassessed by Home Care higher ups LAST week (or week before?) because they feel that mom is being VERY UNREASONABLE to expect the gals to be in our house longer than 5 mins (except on bath days which THEY determined should be only 2x per week and they'd like to eliminate those too).

Excuse me??!?!? Remind me again what the point of "Home Care" is?????
I don't know. My needs were 'too high' to qualify for it.

Good grief. What exactly can you get with home care? My father's wife had her hip replaced about 20 years ago. She couldn't get home care to help even a bit with bathing etc, even though she was pretty dependent on others for help. When she got an infection in a knuckle she got home care for dressing changes. Frankly, I believe both should qualify, though she was capable of going to the nurse for dressing changes.

Basically they just want to come in and help mom get dressed in the morning - and take less than 5 mins to do it...she doesn't need help getting dressed, she needs help getting undressed at night but they won't do that as they have her in a morning slot and it can't be changed...and they asked what her "needs" were and when she told them - fingernail care, meals, rides to appointments, anything that requires the use of two hands not just one - they said they don't do any of that and just hire a taxi (no service here), sign up for Meals on Wheels (don't have that here), and suck it up for the other.

I have worked for a time in that sector, providing IT support to a home care company in our group. The people I knew, the coordinators and supervisors, were an excellent group of people and I miss them dearly. However, the sector isn't funded well and a lot of the frontline workers are casuals who flit from job to job or accept shifts from multiple companies. That makes building and maintaining a standard of care comparable to what we offer in home O2 and respiratory difficult. Our efforts to build and retain a more stable workforce, which would have enabled a better standard of care, had some success IIRC but we ended up selling the company to a competitor because it wasn't really a good fit with the home O2 side of the business.

We don't have FCSS out here but can access Lacombe's - again, doesn't cover her needs...the gal she got to do the housecleaning can only vacuum and wash floors - can't do anything that may involve getting on a step stool (ie change a light bulb or getting anything from a cupboard), she can buy groceries but can't make meals...and a whole host of other ridiculous rules - she's not supposed to do laundry because our machines are in the basement and not on the main floor...they aren't really addressing any of the needs that seniors living alone face.

Project status update:

@BethAnne I think I can congratulate you for having more unfinished objects (UFOs) than I do. I said "I think"....... I could in fact be comparable. I have a sweater on the go and a sock. I have two single socks that require mates and have been brought along as road trip projects. (Done while in the truck). I also have two unfinished sweaters in case I can the one I'm working on done. .........

I did complete a crochet blanket before I left. It is a gift and I will be seeing the recipient next weekend. That's one reason I'm not further ahead with the sweater I'm actively working on.

I guess on second thought, we're pretty comparable. :barefoot:

I only work on a row or two a day so they aren't progressing as fast as they could, but they are all going to get done. :)

I do get more done if I have more than one project. That way I can set one down if I get bored with it and work on something else. Sometimes that means finishing several at once. That impresses people who don't know my system. :barefoot:

There is that too :) I do the same with my painting - have three on the go now.

Here' sah quark ...

I've been told (by a moderator) that I post too much ... a hint that I should leave gaps?

When posts are left out is that a' post 'ole IHC ... then something more is missing in the dark pool? More we don't know ...

Sort of like that BH Syndrome ... approaches a point when there's nothing there ...

Reason for non sense to leave so ci real business can pick up?

Good morning to you too. We have another day on the road. It's sunny and clear here. A nice day for a drive.
