Nut was the sky god in Egypt ... in the UK perhaps the identification with Eire ... on the thin side sort of vacuous? Gone too far nor th' of what? Center!

Yet such means are denied ... as thoughts go ... can such things suffer a ripper? There is a hint of Jake there ... thus it arose ... perhaps under the town hall light ... a flash of the unknown power! St upends us ... and all is forgotten ... until coming round again ... as what goes round ... the Last Post ... returns!

Baffling long shots ...

Spent 1.5 hrs on the sidewalk edging and finished to the back gate and started along the deck...filled the 5-gal pail 8x and it was QUITE the workout hauling it the length of the yard to dump it in the alley

At LAST I finished the final Lord of the Rings book...my gosh, Tolkien put a LOT of effort into these books!

I was impressed with him before I read the books and now I'm really impressed
Try the Silmarillion sometime. It's a slog but there's also some great stuff in it. Basically the Bible of Middle Earth. Fills in some blanks about where things like the balrog and Sauron originated, too. Of course, my favorite Tolkien for a nice, breezy read (at least compared to his other works) is The Hobbit.

I has a sad today. One of my library school profs passed away (cancer). She also worked with my wife for many years so I saw her socially now and then after I graduated.

Sorry for your loss.

Yes, I like the Hobbit - read it twice now as I read it again before the Lord of the Rings. I do want to read some of his other works but will take a rest and read some of the books already in the house that I haven't read before

Just keep in mind that everything published after the Silmarillion is posthumous, compiled from his notes and manuscripts by his son Christopher and various helpers. Even the Silmarillion had quite a bit of posthumous editing, IIRC.
