Just heard our neighbour's 16 yr old granddaughter committed suicide LAST night...and there is a rumour that a local boy also committed suicide yesterday. So sad and senseless in a way.

So wyrd and utterly inexplicable that in a country deemed one of the best in the world to live, that there could be such hopelessness for the future.

Yes. Sad. Tragic. Did you know your neighbor's granddaughter? Hope you help comfort you neighbor to this time.

Known the girl since she was born...this particular family has had so many suicides in the 38 yrs we've known them and this granddaughter was the only grandchild not to attempt...I guess she mentioned in the long letter she left how hurt she was when her brother (he found her) had attempted a few years ago but she didn't seem to realize the impact her death would have. As for the local boy - that family hasn't been in the area for very long and I haven't heard if it is true or not.

How extraordinarily sad, that a feeling of hopelessness would grip a whole family. Does it become an on-going family model of "how to cope with depression"? Does it point to some grave inadequacy in our mental health system? (Which I would suggest, in Ontario, is not much of a system.)

Is loss of hope the same as ...

The death of spirit ...

And self esteem going out the window ...

Driving people to escape and take those close to them, with them ... without thoughts other wise? An Isis concept ...

The "lake" that was our sidewalk is getting deeper.

Ours, too. Thursday morning here it was -26 with the windchill. This afternoon, 2 days later, it was 10. There's friggin' water everywhere. The road tends to be a safe-ish, dry-ish place to walk.

We haven't had much snowfall this winter but what we did has been melting and we still haven't lost our thick layer of ice from Oct., supposed to be cold and snowing all day today but above freezing and no snow.

Wow, this thread has gone through some ups and downs since I last checked in. BA, I'm shocked and saddened to hear about the suicides. Those of you dealing with ice and snow, whether frozen or melting, good luck.
Oh, and LAST.

Local boy - he's in his 20's - died of cardiac arrest not suicide...still very sad for all.
And we have a blizzard now.

Happy to see that today marks the tenth nniversar f my meeting Yobo. That's one solid decade f rich conversations, delightful times, friendship ND romance. We're still going strong ND loving very loved-filled moment. Looking forward to many more years together.
Happy Anniversary! I'm kinda surprised that's all it is for you, partially because you were married before me plus I just don't ever recall you discussing being single/unmarried in a recent manner at WC. A discussion came up today about how long Chemguy and I have been together. Longer than 10 years for sure, I think it's coming up on 11 this spring and we knew each other before that.
