Do you have any stories to tell of mistakes and mishaps in the kitchen?

Recently one of our kids was making a big pot of soup. He intended to add some celery but realised he didnt have any. Being a resourceful soul he decided to use celery seed as a substitute. When he tasted the soup a bit later he figured it tasted weird and saw that he had added aniseed instead of the celery seed!

Chili did that once ... it was foul and took off ... no doubt it would created runs ... not cool although it might have incarnated as Kohl ...

I was making a big pot of chili.

I grabbed what I thought was chili powder, and added the number of tablespoons required.
Turned out it was cayenne pepper.

I never could get it mild enough for my husband to eat. A couple of friends volunteered to take it off my hands that like hot food
