On a more positive note, pending a bit of a potential downturn due to the horror that is autocad, appears daughter might have made dean's list. An accomplishment for a very smart young person who managed to accumulate exactly 1/2 credit in four years of high school.

So, Dad brag.

Eldest Daughter Grace has been applying to various schools to complete a PhD in Critical Sociology.

MUNL was a possibility.

Top pick was York because the Supervisor she met with showed some entusiasm for her master's work (she is researching precarious employment).

U of T wrote and offered her more incentive.

She is their first pick for a Doctoral student. So far they have promised her a yearly award which will cover the entire cost of tuition, books and go a long way toward paying for accommodations. The Research Chair if the Department will be her Thesis Supervisor and will offer her RA and TA options which will also come with a stipend that can be used for living expenses.

Brock essentially paid for her Master's Degree. U of T is agreeing to pay for her Ph.D.

Sorry to not have her bunk with us while she studied at MUNL.

Thrilled for her hard work in Academics to be recognized by the Academic community and cannot wait for her to have her own list of Academic publications to her credit.

In a short while we will add another Doctorate to the family list of fancy paper and the pressure grows for me to return to Academia.

Made worse by my agreeing to participate in intelligence testing so Kimberly could get more hands on work with diagnostic tools.

I, um, scored high and now have to find another reason for not doing something doctoral myself.

If you don't need a doctorate, why get one? I know I could do one easily in any number of fields but there's no real incentive now. Once I retire (and even now to some extent since I became an empty nester), I can do research on topics of interest to my heart's content without the pressure of deadlines and comprehensives to pass. If I was going to do one, I would have done it in my twenties so I could pursue an academic career. Now, with the hindsight of watching my wife's 27ish years in academia, I have no interest in an academic career. If someone offered me one, I would run screaming in the other direction.

That is typically my response. The truth is that D.Min. can have something of a revitalizing effect on pulpit ministry. Not that I am bored or tired of it. Routines are easily established and challenges just as easily avoided.

The other bit is that I am interested in so many aspects of ministry that I don't know what I would like to focus on for the duration of my studies.

Tuition at MUNL is free to faculty spouses so that takes care of the fiscal bit.

To avoid being over doctored by the rest of the house folk?

Was unaware that a DMin can be obtained from MUNL.

That is a fly in the ointment.

I also don't think it would be wise to try to drop into a doctoral program having been outside of academia for so long.

I could probably drop into a Master's program. Queen's College (Anglican) of MUNL offers opportunities in that regard.

The question still remains which area of ministry would I want to tackle in a Doctoral program.

A lot of respected colleagues take advantage of a D.Min in homiletics offered out of Chicago. Revsdd studied there and I have other friends and respected colleagues who have done the same.

While I respect homiletics and constantly work on improving my oratory skills there are other areas of ministry which also appeal to me.

I have thought about this off an on for the past 20 years but am still undecided.

Doctoring of the mouth wash program ... so the word slides on easier? Sound like a soap box programming ... some can't speak about Ide at all ... (their former experiences). Then some powers wont allow some experiences to be heard (denial and elimination flourishes in some strong BS's). Thus we miss a great deal ... if not heard and seen you can't speak of the wee monkey scheme can yah! Tis a triad ...

One of our supervising ministers did that ... she spoke well afore the programming ... afore-ism? Met Ur face to face ... good person when you looked her right in the I ... in there was me and you all inclusive ... some still are at the initial point of Kubler-Ross ... like an ice shelf ...

Go ahead and brag - there are things that are worthy of mention! Congratulations to Grace, who has earned her good opportunities.

I spent a chunk of this morning chatting with my 'at University' grandkid. It was delightful to pick up the phone and hear his voice. I guess I'll brag and tell everyone here that he just got a second Scholarship. One for $5,000 , one for $2,500 is a good help with the expense.

If we don't brag about our kids, who will. Brag on. My oldest Grandson is taking

his doctorate in English in Calgary. He will be back tomorrow from Albquerci, sp.

New Mexico where he was presenting. Sorry I don't even know if I am using the

right words.

Ah, scholarships. You can never have too many scholarships. Congrats to your grand.

Little M got a couple this year and with his marks so far, he should be in line for at least one in second year.
