We had a great trip, even with a few glitches. My phone did the blue screen of death when we were in Byron Bay. Trump's war with Iran terminated our return through Dubai. Thr circuit breaker for our sump pump tripped, flooding our basement.
We visited Hobbiton, visited a glow worm cave, and took a tour to Milford Sound in New Zealand. We fed kangaroos in a koala sanctuary up river from Brisbane. We watched the sun rise from near the lighthouse in Byron Bay and had a ride on a solar powered train. In Hervey Bay we took a tour to K'Gsri (pronounced Gurry), the largest Sand Island in the world, and attended an opening night for two exhibitions at the Art Museum. A typhon led to taking a tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery when 200 mm of rsin led to cancellations ofvtours to the Great Barrier Reef. Our time in Sydney started with tours of the Blue Mountains and a zoo, finishing with taking a ferry to the Circular Quay. We took buses to Bondi Beach and the Sydney Opera House.
Our trip to Hobart started with sn open air market with 300 exibitors. We took a trip by biat to MONA, the museum of old and new art. We visited the histiric sutes fir rhe wonen's and men's prisons.
We saw sunset and sunrise at Uluru (Ayers Rock).
We toured alkeyways in Melbourne and rode the historic Tram.
In Adelaide we took a tour to thecwine country that started with a visit to Miunt Lofty' a lookout point where all of Adrlaide could be seen. Thevtour finished at a winerry with the Cube, a four stiry cube with liots of weird art. A SalvadorecDali exhibit was on the second floor and tgree very larve Dali sculptures were beside the parking lot. There was also a Dr, Suess exhibit in a tent hear tge cube.
We spent a week with friends who live in Perth with hslf the time on a trip to the Margeret River area. We saw the Southern Ocean and the Indian Ocean. I had an esrly morning swim in the Indian Ocean. We made a day trip to a big island where we saw Quokas (sp?) and seals.
We flew through Bali and Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan, Borneo. The first two nights were in a Nature resort in a villa next to a large outdoor pool. We did a night walk and a trio to the discovery centre to see Orangutans and sun bears. We slso saw our first pygmy elephant. We were taken by bus to the port where we took almost two hours by boat across an ocean bay and uo river to a lodge only accessible by boat.On the second river cruise we saw a herd of pygmy elephants at the edge of the river. We saw a variety of birds, monkeys, and other creatures and a fabulous sunset.
We stayed in a villa at the first luxury resort in Densapeur, Bali for four nights. Our third day took in an all day tour from Balinese dancing and crafts to a waterfall, restaurant by a rice field, and a farm high in the hills that grew rice and coffee along with some spices.
At breakfast time one morning we sae the big volcano for the first and only time. The rest of the time it was hidden by clouds.
We flew home via Taipae?, Tokyo, and Calgary to Ottawa.
