Is Ontario headed for another Wynne win?

The election of Doug Ford as leader is yet another sign of the rot taking hold of the conservative movement across the western world. "Conservatism" has lost any sight of its ideological roots and has become an awkward mish-mash of social conservatism (wanting the government to dictate what is and is not moral), anti-immigration sentiment and radical populism which expresses itself in insults and personal attacks against opponents to appeal to an increasingly rabid base vote. From my perspective, one of the saddest parts of this is the evangelical Christian community adopting an "ends justify the means approach" and largely giving up even any pretence of actually caring about the words, behaviours and attitudes of those they embrace as they rush headlong into the arms of people like Trump and Ford. Meanwhile, many of our more "progressive" politicians seem completely lost: adrift on a sea of platitudes, political correctness and warm fuzzies with seemingly no consistent ideas on what they really want to do if they get power - with our own Justin Trudeau as the poster boy for this trend. It's sad. Truly sad. And where it will lead us - nobody knows, but probably no place good.

How can things rot in an unchanging environment that they preserve?

Is the guise on the right related to Jae ... looks like some of the avatars Jae posted ...

Kind 've and odd coincidence ... unless they are connected incidentally!

As a creationist Luce, I believe that we're all related. Even you and I are brothers.

I hope no ... you may remain on the other side of the great void ... sometimes referred to as a vale or even a pipe ... allowing washing and flushing --- from Jesus Cloe Set ... does encourage complexities in soul! Sort 've like a thought as denied by the other halve ...

Reminds me of when Clinton waited to concede after she was defeated by Trump.
When was that? In his victory speech on election night - well, actually at about 1:30 in the morning - Trump himself acknowledged that Clinton had called him to concede and congratulate him.

Hilary Clinton Concedes Defeat In Private Phone Call With Donald Trump

She publicly conceded defeat the next day:

Hilary Clinton Concedes Presidential Election To Donald Trump: 'We Must Accept This Result'

Or are you working with "alternative facts"?

We'll see what Christine Elliott does today, but it is a farce, as @Mendalla said. The PC Party wants to run Ontario but they can't even run a well organized leadership campaign.

I was referring to her public concession the next day. I had either not known or else forgotten about Trump's comment. I expect to see a concession by Elliott soon enough. Now is the time for the PC party to pull together as they prepare for the big race ahead.

It is heart breaking. What a screw up. I am one of thousands who did not receive my PIN number in the mail and so could not vote

One thing this mess does highlight is the difficulty in on line voting

Let’s blame the Russians

Frankly, if the PCs blame anyone other than their own executive team, they are screwed. Without an admission that the problem is internal, they cannot fix it.

It would be entertaining in a non-election year. Right now, it's alternating between sad and scary given the possible impact on the PCs ability to mount a proper campaign this spring.

Or, one could use this display to conclude that not only will the PC Party be unable to "mount a proper campaign", but, goddes forbid, run the province with any semblance of order.

I actually mentioned that during the chaos of last night. The problem is, I'm hardly in the target audience. I have voted for a conservative leaning party maybe twice in my 35 years as a registered voter, and those times I was voting more for the candidate than the party. It's getting those who habitually vote PC or who are part of the "Ford Nation" to realize it that's a problem. They will cast their vote with nary a thought to this mess.

Kathleen Wynne will love this. Why spend time and money tying the PCs to the religious right when they are doing it for you?

One more thing for Christianity to answer for. One more thing Christians will either gleefully own or insist wast their fault.

Tying Christianity to alt-right populism is going to hurt the entire faith. The only problem is how much damage is it going to do before people realize what they've done?

You know who's most upset by Ford winning - aside, I suppose, from Christine Elliott? John Tory, Mayor of Toronto.

Tory beat Ford for the mayoralty. One of his key platforms had to do with transit. Ford was bitterly opposed to Tory's transit vision, called "SmartTrack" and the separate plan for the Scarborough subway. Tory's transit vision is dependent on provincial funding. If Ford becomes premier, he's not going to feel under any obligation to fund Tory's transit plans.

John Tory is not a happy man today. Not at all.
