It will be interesting for me to just sit back and watch this race. What I mean is, I won't be around to vote. If things go according to plan, I'll be in South Korea. I hope to see a good and fair race between candidates, with the best woman or man for the job being (re-)elected Premier.
 
What does it say about the Ontario PC Party that in each of it its last three leadership races, Christine Elliott was arguably the best candidate, and each time she was cast aside in favour of weaker candidates (Tim Hudak, Patrick Brown and now Doug Ford)? Is the Ontario PC Party just not ready for a woman as leader?
 
So, maybe it's time to overlook the NDP leader's "stridency" (she is rather awful...) and the Green's lack of experience.

That might, unfortunately, be the truth of the problem. Maybe same as why Clinton was so vilified. It feels to me (and here I'm channelling a "Feeling" type) that being a woman is a larger disadvantage than we've accepted.
 
They're religious. Of multiple religions. They are anti-sex-education, anti-abortion, and highly faithful.

A great number of them are pro-life and highly faithful. I don't feel any of them are anti-sex-education though, just anti-radical-sex-education.
 
You mean the sort of sex ed that would allow a young child to testify against their religious leader.
 
The religious idiots want Ford. The establishment wants Elliott. Ford seems to have the lead. They will recount the ballots. Whoever loses will complain.

From my perspective, they are too loaded with religious social conservatives to even consider, no matter who wins. Christine Elliott would be at odds with many members. I'd vote for her, but not the party she hopes to represent.

But I hate the Liberals.

And the NDP don't seem to have it together. I don't think they have the talent to govern.

In my riding, it's Liberals vs PC. I'm probably forced into voting Liberal.
 
SO Mike Crawley of CBC tweeted 6 minutes ago that they would have a result in 5 minutes. Anyone heard anything??
 
Read the replies to Mike Crawley's tweet about the Ford news being confirmed. The positive reactions are thanking God. Seriously.
 
I found it interesting that neither Christine Elliott nor Caroline Mulroney were there when Doug Ford was officially declared leader.

They have no relations with thought ... for that would crank-up the soul from its home in dark Ness ... and the sol is relatively unseen! Thus UNth-unque ... tis a goal for some ... thus the rest of us get carried along because of socialization with these people? Thinking people should remain underground ... understood? Tis a sublime state ... quite strange ... East of Eden or far over the horizon ...
 
The election of Doug Ford as leader is yet another sign of the rot taking hold of the conservative movement across the western world. "Conservatism" has lost any sight of its ideological roots and has become an awkward mish-mash of social conservatism (wanting the government to dictate what is and is not moral), anti-immigration sentiment and radical populism which expresses itself in insults and personal attacks against opponents to appeal to an increasingly rabid base vote. From my perspective, one of the saddest parts of this is the evangelical Christian community adopting an "ends justify the means approach" and largely giving up even any pretence of actually caring about the words, behaviours and attitudes of those they embrace as they rush headlong into the arms of people like Trump and Ford. Meanwhile, many of our more "progressive" politicians seem completely lost: adrift on a sea of platitudes, political correctness and warm fuzzies with seemingly no consistent ideas on what they really want to do if they get power - with our own Justin Trudeau as the poster boy for this trend. It's sad. Truly sad. And where it will lead us - nobody knows, but probably no place good.
