I'm not so sure that they are unaware of this anymore. The GOP establishment reaction to Trump suggests that the "pawns" have more power than the power brokers are comfortable with and that the GOP establishment is losing control of the game they've been playing with these people. One of my worries about The Donald is that him getting the nom could be seen by some of these people as legitimizing them.

Right, but read the article and some of the tweets being quoted. While questioning affirmative action may not be racist, calling a black teenager a "monkey" and worse most certainly is. Malia is a person deserving of more respect than that. Yes, her Daddy's name and position probably helped her get in. So what? That's how the Ivy League operates by and large. Kids of prominent powerful men and wealthy alumni have been getting through their doors on that basis forever. Do you think that Barbara Pierce Bush, W's daughter, got in to Yale on her own merits, given that her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather are/were all well-heeled, well-positioned Yale alumni? Did these people even make a peep about that? Not that I heard of, and that's likely because the Bushes are white conservatives.
I worry about the same thing re: Donald legitimizing their racist points of view. However, I think the GOP is falling apart and hopefully will have to do some soul searching to regroup. I hope.

If Bernie got elected (long, long shot) or was chosen as Hillary's VP running mate and they won and could bring real change to Washington (Obama tried but I think the GOP blocked him far too often) ... Who knows what could happen? I really think (hope) the GOP are done. They look like a farce right now and the establishment democrats slightly better ... Ok still a lot better ... But maybe real change is on the horizon. Maybe by next election - 2020- there will be real change and progress and a different generation of mainstream voters (I read in Washington Post I think it was, that this was thought to be the trend). Patience, patience.

In my small town there is a lot of resentment against Filipino citizens. They really can't win for losing - they are taking our kids' jobs - they are all living on Welfare- they are all lazy - they get all the scholarships at the High School. Etc. Etc. I have been favourably impressed by the ones I have had conversations with. There is a bias against 1st Nation people too.

Being part of a biracial family (my daughter is Chinese) I don't think I'd completely agree with you on that.

Oh, I didn't suggest it didn't exist. I said it was better disguised (which it often is; we simply don't have that history of slavery and civil rights violence they do) and that it was more focussed on indigenous people.

I had a Jamaican lover for a couple of years. I am very well aware that racism is alive and well here; but it isn't the same.

I'd like to think that things are better here in Canada than in the US. It's hard to do so, considering I know of racism that's happened to members of my own family.

It is best to have bad spelt stuff so you can avoid being accused of knowledge ... bad according to the bible on unimpeded passions ... tis a dark, or otherwise shady aria ... like a negro spiritual ... often a hooter in disguise ... baal ladius?

Are ballads questioned for understanding of what's buried in the song ... melodious mon-Ka's?

Is slavery like inhibition, or just impediment to the understanding of vast word? It appears we don't know the 'alve ov eite!

Should one Luce in up and about? What Kahn I sae ...

Racial slurs against unseen word ... that's fasting, or quick on the draw ... de drew ID? ID being primal ...

Oddly, we haven't seen much of it in our lives. London has had its fair share of racial incidents, but nothing that has ever impacted us directly. Part of that may be that we live in a very multi-cultural part of the city and most of our friends, save my next door neighbour, are not traditional white Anglo-Canadians. We have a mixed Pakistani-Dutch family, an Indian family, other Chinese families, and so on in our circle. My son's school has large South and East Asian populations. Our street has a mix of races and cultures and they seem to get on fairly well. So I think where you live in Canada has a role, just as it does in the US (where racism is clearly more of an issue in some cities/states than others).

I have to laugh at some of the phishing attempts i get ... the latest is the YOU MUST APPEAR IN COURT CASE email..
An email comes in that says you have to appear in court in eight days and all the documents are attached to the email - please read them to prepare yourself for questioning. DO NOT OPEN the attachment obviously as its rife with viruses which hack your email account address book and over the next few minutes or hours or days send the same message to ALL your contacts.

Sometime s I shake my head and wonder 'who would ever fall for that?' but then i get the same email from a trusted friend whom I respect and admire and I know he fell for it - he or she clicked the attachment wondering... 'What? I have to appear in court?"

Now what do they do? They must go delete the file in their system. They can find easily in control panel by searching for most recent download and installation, and then they should download Malware Bytes and run it to remove residual viruses- is what I use - its free and often does the job on the first scan.

Seconded on Malwarebytes. It's a go to utility in my IT toolkit.

Is a male ware a byte on things many aren't alert (sentience) to?

Then there are those that say in Kahn aD-a we shouldn't know what's going on above ... could make you feel ill!

Saw this article on Yahoo! this morning. Makes me cringe a little as I am in an interracial marriage myself and have a mixed race son.

https://ca.style.yahoo.com/post/143738507045/this-old-navy-ad-featuring-an-interracial-family

I thought the whole interracial marriage thing had long since been put to bed in North America but I guess some folks never give up. Makes me worry for my son that there are still people out there decrying "miscegenation" when they see a mixed race family.

I'm not sure what is the answer. As a longtime supporter of an open Internet, I can't simply say "ban their asses back to the Stone Age" but at the same time, seeing stuff like this in the 21st century makes me rather sad.

This is the future
Another article where the content is of tweets by twits

I still laugh when I see as part of a news thang ``sexygirl88 said no way dude and satanjaw12 said...``

The article that was linked to I call a newsit...fundamentally aboot nothing

Get used to more and more of this a more and more people of varying cultures (sombunall of whom are deeply sexist n racist n homophobic and statist and etc) come into contact with each other.

Just look at the power of this thing we are communicating on...it helped free Czechslovakia from Soviet Russia n also led to the loss of that dentists job who shot that lion

Human freedoms are very powerful and vital...they are given to us by g_ddess Himself or if you dont believe that thing a Natural Law

States are rightly concerned...also mobs can be terrifying. We should have global authority whose main job is to protect us from each other. Our laws imho cover all the things right now like harrassment n stalking n libel n slander

The incompetent should be protected n people shoul be punished for breaking the law but being offended SHOULD NEVER GIVE ANYONE ANY RIGHTS (thanks death, hows Binky?)

Various relligions n states have tried this n history is littered with the bodies of people who have violated this

I see what will probably happen is the net will move towards a pseudoanonymous model where the net will keep track of everyones reputation across all platforms

So some of the wonderful pioneer spirit will be gone but more peoples fairness morality will be assuaged by such a scheme

Whew. So hard to type on this teeny keyboard whilst doing my patriotic duty of coffee @ Timmies

Maybe this is a joke to you, but as I said, I'm in an interracial family. One of the objectors wrote, “Your clothes are crap and now you’re promoting miscegenation. Disgusting!”. Disgusting? My family is disgusting? And I'm supposed to do what? Sit back and celebrate how wonderful and free is the Internet?

This is not simply about assuaging someone's "fairness morality". Bringing back old racist language against mixing of races is a real concern for some of us. Words can lead to actions and ugly words can lead to ugly actions. What happens when someone who thinks my son is "disgusting" decides to act on it? I'm an Internet libertarian myself but, to be honest, free speech has its limits, something we have long recognized in law here in Canada.

Oh I grok where youre coming from

I was laughing @ the people quoted in the article...the random social media twits that the yahoo writerz? chose to include...thatz not a newz article but rather a modern newsit

And yes I do recognize that Canada has a few of the olde tyme blasphemy laws on the books and Ive stated my position on them before

Also problematic is what I pointed out since so many different cultures (and remember not every culture shares the same laws or what they consider wrong and right) are online with each other including the Authoritarian ones...when making comments whose law does it fall under which is very much a metaphysical legal question since the offence is happening in peoples heads...

It also reminds me of a bizarre Time magazine cover within the past 20 years that was aboot interracial marriage in britain...i found that to be bizarre because hey...its modern times

Also people can forget that all of us human beings r of mixed race so all marriages can be interracial

I suspect that 'the future' will not include a comments section. Opinions are like a**holes; everyone has one.

I note that some companies have already done this...

This whole global telepathy thing is sure interesting...

''U thot good thoughts aboot me...im responsible for my feelings''

''U thot bad thoughts aboot me...state arrest that woman...''

And so it goes

As someone also in an interracial family I really think you're being too sensitive here, Mendalla. I didn't take Inanna's post as a joke at all. I thought it was fine. I especially appreciated the words, "This is the future. Another article where the content is of tweets by twits." I think that's probably right on. I've seen entire articles on reputable news sites that are composed ENTIRELY of a list of outrageous tweets on a subject. Social media is dominating everything now. It provides an outlet for anonymous idiots to spew their nonsense. From memes on Facebook to stupid tweets. With honesty being not even a consideration for many. Perfectly legitimate candidates for public office are hounded out of their candidacies because they posted something years ago that someone managed to find and decided was offensive. It's insane.

Then I think you're being too sensitive as well. I don't think for a moment that Innana was joking about the issue of racism. I thought it was a valid reflection on the nature of reporting and conversation on social media.
