I don't vaccinate my child because it's my right to determine which diseases come back

Hmmm, that seemed contrary to other posts in this thread where it is indicated that we should not try to reduce risk or probability of damage, such as through vaccination or medical advances.
Uh, I said I don't think more needs to be done that isn't already being attempted to stop CP. I said that we need greater equality for people living with conditions like CP. I didn't say don't vaccinate. I was saying, in essence, don't forget there are other priorities.

I will address this and I hope you read it. I think a lot is being done to prevent damage but I don't think that CP needs to be eradicated. I don't think much more needs to be done. A lot is done. I think people with disabilities of various types add to richness and diversity of society. I think deadly illnesses, AIDS, cancer - accute diseases that are life threatening need to be cured. CP is not life threatening in the majority of cases and it is not a disease or an illness it's a condition.

Kimmio, I recommend you reread this post, and the posts related to it.

I think we should do what we can to limit them, yeah, but with CP so much is known and is being done - and it is not a disease. And having kids with disabilities is not the end of the world. That's the point I really want to make.

I am not me without my disability - I wouldn't have learned what I've learned - and you know - some people look at disability like any other natural biological process - like being born transgender, or gay or lesbian? Now, there are a lot of parents still horrified to learn that their kids are LGBT but there is also another side to it - because of social change not medical cures. We stopped trying to cure it and changed how we looked at it. It's the same with many disabilities and I think CP is one of them. It's not fatal. It is in very severe cases when someone needs help with basic body functions and is neglected. The neglect is the problem there. Neglect, lack of care about others, is the issue. That's what's dis-abling.

Back to vaccinations. Here in Niagara Region we have our first diagnosed case of measles since 1996. A 20 year old woman (unvaccinated, of course) who was recently in Toronto, must have been exposed and brought it back. They've identified everywhere she went and what times she went there - including the Niagara Falls Hospiral and a Niagara Falls Wal-Mart and are telling people who were in those places at the same time to be on the alert for symptoms. But, of course, how many people could have been in those places, been exposed and taken the virus elsewhere? Born in 1963, I'm thinking I was probably vaccinated (no reason I wouldn't have been) but don't know that 100%. My wife is pretty sure she was as well, but also has immune issues, so we wonder. Our daughter most certainly has been vaccinated. Probably twice actually. Once in China as a baby, and then re-vaccination was required when we brought her to Canada, because Canada doesn't trust Chinese vaccination records.

Set aside the discredited pseudo-science and get your kids vaccinated, people. For everybody's sake.

My goodness ..... we can get so obsessed with splitting the politically correct hairs that the importance of the real issue gets lost along the way. In my life were I to focus on how politically correct others are I would never get out of bed in the morning.
I go by heart ..... if there was no slight intended then I work hard to take none. Gentle informing and just a carefully bit of that is usually enough to help guide direction. I try to be careful to not make it too much so that the person is not drawn into explaining and defending. Leave it be after the gentle nudge no matter the awkward reply and soon a wonderful bit of change is in the air ;)

I have found over the years that putting people on the defensive is usually a poor way of achieving the desired outcome.

Back to vaccinations- I had all the childhood diseases Chicken pox, measles mumps . Not fun.My sisters had them too.

I was vaccinated against polio but the "live" vaccine was too alive. I got polio from it. I was 18 months old and so sick that my mother tells me I couldn't roll over in bed. I have a pretty great recovery. You would not know I had it to meet me. I do have a residual left side weakness. It shows up in precise swim strokes-and I need to concentrate on it more. Currently I'm noticing my left foot having a tendency to turn in and I wonder about post polio syndrome-that's where the over used muscles (due to others being weak) are affected by the greater load they carry and begin to wear out.

As for vaccinations -we need to make it easier for parents to get their kids vaccinated. Easier access-convenient locations, extended hours , and drop ins available. When my kids were young we were attending health clinic weekly for speech therapy. Hours were different than hours for vaccinations, making life with 3 little one, and a shared family car more complicated.

Routine immunization: adults born before 1970 are generally presumed to have acquired natural immunity to measles; however, some of these individuals may be susceptible.

Within the mainstream medical and scientific community there is an unassailable pseudo-truth that vaccines are safe and effective, whether administered individually or in combination.

Within the vaccine injured children and autism movements there is also an unchallenged belief that vaccines are effective but not always safe. In this case, vaccine-injured children or adult family members were simply one of the rare cases where they received a hot lot vaccine or possessed biomolecular abnormalities, such as mitochondria dysfunction, and suffered the consequences. Even many parents with two children developing neurological complications after vaccination, will continue to follow the recommended vaccine schedule.

Any medical physician, scientist, nurse, public health advocate, politician, or journalist who questions the myth of vaccine safety and efficacy are often immediately attacked, ridiculed, and designated a conspirator. In fact, the pro-vaccine propaganda machine sends forth articulate doctors and university scientists to engage in ad hominin personal attacks against vaccine dissenters.

However, what if all of these individuals and their organizations, their shadow lobbying foundations and think tanks, are wrong? What if the vaccine paradigm itself is flawed? What if vaccines have never been soundly confirmed to be safe and effective? What if the CDC, vaccine manufacturers, and the leading vaccine advocates knew of these discrepancies and contradictions, yet intentionally ignored them against the public interests and the well being of the American population?

After several decades of studying the scientific literature regarding vaccines, following the money trails, and interviewing many dozens of toxicologists, immunologists, research physicians, pediatricians, and medical journalists the vaccine paradigm can now be accurately deconstructed with real independent science.

Absolutely, check out that web site. Full of medical-type advice. Go look at the contributors. The first one (CEO, writes articles in all categories), has a B.A. from the Moody Bible Institute (and an MA in Applied Linguistics).

It doesn't get better. Not an MD in the bunch.
