What if "holy" is a meaningless term? What makes something "holy" and something else not? What differences would we notice?
Go for it. I already think it's interesting that nobody can simply give me an answer to what appears to be a straightforward question: "What makes something 'holy' and something else not? What differences would we notice?"That would be an interesting thread. "What Makes Something Holy?"
Hi Kimmio:
I'm all in favour of displacing post traumatic stress disorder, depression, drug addiction, and other psychological disorders with mystical ecstasy!
My favourite rehab center is the Round Lake Treatment Center near Vernon, were they replace or displace various mental disorders and drug addiction with mystical ecstasy, using traditional aboriginal rituals like the Sweat Lodge and the Vision Quest.
Science and mysticism are, in my view, very compatible. I think that good mystics make good scientists, and vice versa. The two are not mutually exclusive but inclusive!
Science alone is intelligent but unholy; mysticism alone is holy but unintelligent. The union between the two renders mysticism intelligent and science holy.
*giggle*Do you know that he 'had to' learn to colour within the lines first to be able to grok anything outside the lines...or is that you being scientifically methodological in your thought process? If he did so - did he 'have to'?
I think philosophers, by their nature, understand outside the lines and then attempt to construct a bunch of lines (usually sentences)in order to communicate what they understand.
Science is missing something besides mysticism. It's missing prioritization of social concerns - take the technology problem and the monsters we've created with it. Scientists today are jealous gods. It was mysticism that lead to that study for example, not science.
"The only real valuable thing is intuition." - Einstein
It is a shame, IMO, that Einstein's theories are applied but the rest of his more intuitive and philosophical wisdom is nearly overlooked. He was an intelligent and beautiful person.
