Kimmio, wondering if there is anyway to reconfigure the layout so they can access the washer without bothering you?
That was something my stepdad was going to help me suggest (with his backing). I did once suggest maybe they could reconfigure things somehow. There’s a space under their sunroom at the back that is open, and there are some old bikes/ parts and garden hoses or cables or something, and I think a tire, etc. under there. A few random things. My kitchen and bathroom windows look out into that open gap. But I don’t really look out there. They could enclose it easily enough and even build stairs down from their place into it, and an outside access door for tenants, or just an outside access door for everybody (I lived in a suite like that when I was younger - laundry room for whole house I think was outside access, not ideal but we hardly ever have weather that would make that impossible - better than this arrangement because then nobody’s laundry has to be anyone else’s business) - he’s super handy when he wants to be. He could hook the machines up there. I bet it would take him a week if he got on it. He replaced my parents’ deck and built an extension on it. My stepdad, or somebody else might have helped him a little bit at the time, but he pretty much did it all himself. The art studio/ workshop he turned his detached garage into himself, is beautiful (no bathroom or kitchenette otherwise it’d make a nice bachelor pad, itself). He built their sunroom, actually. But they are reluctant to do anything to improve things down here. They got half way and stopped, it seems.

The other thing they could do is get themselves a stackable washer/ dryer and hook it up upstairs somewhere - usually people put them in bathroom linen closets - even a good condition used one. With all the rent money they made in the past year, they could do that. It‘s none of my business what they buy for their own use - but it sure would solve some problems.

I just saw a local ad for one - stacked washer/ dryer - in great used condition for $400. Frig, I’d save up and buy them one if it would help me have a secure and peaceful place to live until I’m ready to move to Van. I’ll eat toast and peanut butter or beans and rice for a month straight.

That sounds like a good idea to get your step dad to assist

of course , I guess part of the issue is that this is a problem for you but perhaps not for them. But a way to approach it might be that for the next tenant it would make the flat more independent and could up the rent slightly

I hope she doesn’t up it just for doing that.
