In Canada the pastel pills are called Rockets - and they're my all-time favorite candy.
My old boss was middle eastern - he used to order a big box of fruit every week for the staff room. Sometimes, there'd be a box of dates included - not a big fan, but I did eat them for a bit of energy during those mid-shift lags. Better (for you) than candy. But, we were not kids at Halloween. That's a whole other matter.
I don't remember my parents stealing my Halloween candy. I remember sharing it, but I think I had the chocolate bars all organized and counted!

Oh ya, and I think I had one of those jack o' lantern pails but, when I got a bit older and wiser, and I saw that the other kids were doing it, I upgraded to a pillowcase! The goal was to fill it up. Greedy, greedy. But we went to as many houses as was humanly possible until our dads had enough. My friend (dad's friend's daughter) lived in a different neighbourhood - for a few years, our dads would take us around both.

Each year after my four siblings and I had returned home with our loot, my dad would present a bucket and ask us to put in it anything we didn't want. Then he'd eat it.
The most enterprising in my family was my sister Mae. Every year, she'd save her treats until the rest of us had finished ours - then she'd open a store.

I also remember carrying a UNICEF box every year. That's what the bowls of pennies/ coins were for, here! So, that's a good thing. if you weren't carrying a UNICEF box, then I guess it would be perplexing to have small change in the bottom of your loot bag.
That's pretty entrepreneurial! What does she do now?

She's a mom. She did work for a while in sales - for AT&T, and for London Tourism.

And I didn't call the Reese's Peanut Butter thieving. I called it "payment" for accompanying two children around to a multitude of local houses, often in the pouring rain, or sleet, or snow, or some awfulness, and ALWAYS losing at least one of a pair of good gloves in the process. ("No, Mom, I cannot wear mitts with my witch costume; it would look foolish". Half an hour later they had one of my gloves each.)

How?
I actually found them to be quite inedible most of the time. The paper stuck and it would actually be inside the candy. Those things were so hard to chew horrible for the teeth, and I say that as someone who loved the starbursts, mojos and tootsie rolls!

If I recall - I think they're kind of like Starbursts, but flatter squares.
