The article speaks to the plans for a 3 million capital improvement.
It also speaks to victims family not getting the funds.

So....it kind of pertains to the questions regarding the go fund me campaigns.
When 11million is raised
a) how many won't come through.
b) how will they be distributed.
c) who will make the decisions, and do the donors know who will make those decisions.

Why is that?

There are a number of reasons.

The first is accident vs self-inflicted injury. We are far more sympathetic to those who are victims of chance or somebody else's negligence than we are of folk who make a decision to take their own lives.

We make room for those with life-threatening illness. Not so much impatient quitters.

I am convinced that there is a lot of emotionsl expropriation going on with respect to the Broncos tragedy. So many parents living under similar circumstance cannot recognize that they did not narrowly miss death themselves. It is less about what others are really going through and more about what if it had been me.

I don't think society is emotionally healthy enough to know what is its business and what isn't.

As a result the huge emotional tragedies will get tremendous support because with all of the emotional investment in somebody else's tragedy comes the emotional salve of being able to do something to make ourselves feel better. We can throw money at it and feel relief.

So we do and the pot balloons.

What accountability structures are there to make sure the money gets to whom it is promised and is spent on what it was purposed for?

Honour system?

That might work for some people, it dorsn't work for all.

Just saw this update on the GoFundMe campaign on Twitter. It sounds like they are taking a reasonable approach in putting the money in a trust and setting up a non-profit to administer the funds. The devil will be in the details of the trust and corporation of course.

I wonder how this will all play out for the families. A lot of their projected expenses would be covered by insurance - medical care initially and in the future, family travel and hotel costs, ongoing income replacement payments etc.. The funds raised may not actually be needed in that quantity. It will be interesting to see what happens as time goes on. Sure am glad it isn't my responsibility.

You wonder why they need a new church instead of just fixing/ modifying the old one. Believe should be able to overcome the tragedy, right? I don’t think that there is a way of dividing money up by need. That’s too subjective. Splitting it by the number of injured and dead would be easy and quick. Modifications to the church can be paid for by a mortgage.

With regards to the Broncos- it might be, that because of the donation money,insurance might ut down of what they cover. I do believe the often have a clause that they pay what is not covered by health insurance. They might find an easy way out if the victims are suddenly milionairs.
