Faces of Jesus

I believe that the upper left pic is based on a forensic reconstruction. Which means it is a dead ringer (pun quite by accident) for some actual being who once walked the earth in that neck of the woods. I expect Jesus looked as much like him as he did any other person at the time.

The challenge for Christians who take seriously that all humanity is created in the image and likeness of God is how can we look at another human being and fail to see the God in whose image and likeness that human being was created? Sure we are all funhouse reflections of that image and likeness with our own flaws and corruptions are we willing to stretch beyond those flaws or not?
Watching “Bones”, they usually reconstruct images if they have a skull. Since there were no bones found, I wonder how anybody would want to reconstruct a face of Jesus. That sounds more like an attempt to portrait the “ typical jew”.

Enlightened power ... one has to pry into some really dark places to find denied ancient wisdom ... a strange process like the O logics? That's the word for yah ... much hidden there in past understanding not accepted by presence! Present Gods?

That was the point of that particular exercise. Running on some texts of scripture which claim that Jesus appearance was not one that drew attention to himself they were hoping to find someone average.

Although I think you would want a number of forensic reconstructions just so you could find the optical average.

This is the earliest found painting of Jesus from Syria dated 235......looks greek. It supposedly wasn't until the 4th or 6th century that he was depicted with a beard and then halos. No images have been found from the 1st century other than symbols to represent him. (source wiki)

This is a seal depicting Jesus, found by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem during the excavation of a 4th. century Christian house. It is said to be the oldest depiction of Jesus found so far.
