I was on a very expensive Pfizer drug until I had a reaction to it. It was covered by the province thankfully because very few people would be able to afford it. It is covered in most if not all provinces. There is a grant program through Pfizer to cover it. I don't know how the hoops are for getting the grant.
 
By exploiting the patent system to keep generic drugs off the market, Big Pharma makes lifesaving medicines unaffordable to many in need.

One of Pfizer's (NYSE:pFE) blockbuster drugs has effectively flopped in a late-stage combination therapy trial. The company announced on Friday that the results of a Phase 3 trial for its Ibrance (Palbociclib) breast cancer drug in the treatment of early stage breast cancer were disappointing.

The results of the study indicate that, when used in combination with post-surgery endocrine therapy, it "is unlikely to show a statistically significant improvement in the primary endpoint of invasive disease-free survival (iDFS)."

The trial was conducted on male and female patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative early stage breast cancer.

This is a quite a setback for Pfizer, which had hoped to unlock even greater commercial potential for the successful Ibrance in early stage breast cancer treatment. It said it was "disappointed" in the study's results.

In spite of that, the pharmaceutical giant insists that the Ibrance setback won't divert it from its growth path.

In its press release announcing the news, the company wrote that "[g]iven the continued breadth of our marketed portfolio and strength of our pipeline, our growth projections are not reliant upon any individual marketed medicine or pipeline opportunity."

Pfizer recently stated that the pandemic has already boosted its balance sheet ...

“We want to make sure we don’t have people dying just because they don’t have access to the vaccine,” Gates said Wednesday. “We will get a good deal on the vaccine, and we need the world to get a good deal on that. Many of the companies have committed themselves to that.”

Gates spoke on vaccine safety, saying he expects the Food and Drug Administration will do a good job of reviewing any potential vaccine despite the pressure to make one available to the public as soon as possible.

Gates also said the potential vaccine will likely require two doses rather than one, potentially further limiting the number of people who can get vaccinated once a vaccine becomes available.

His wife, Melinda Gates, (also a billionaire philanthropist and co-chair of the foundation), said in May that scientists and health officials may find a vaccine that is effective in preventing Covid-19 by the end of this year “if we’re lucky.”

"Even if scientists do find a vaccine in record time, they would still need to make millions and eventually billions of doses of the vaccine for the general public", she said.

"There are more than 7.6 billion people in the world, and some of the vaccines under development require more than one dose", she said.

“We have never, never as a globe made a vaccine of this type before nor of this scale before ever." she said!

But But ...

According to a poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, only about half of Americans say they would get a coronavirus vaccine if scientists succeed in making one that works.

Among Americans who say they wouldn’t get vaccinated, 7 in 10 worry about safety, according to the poll.

Oh dear ... what a conundrum ... all those vaccines without enough manufactured consent ... what ever can be done about that?

I suspect that Canadian participation might be substantially higher. And part of that would be the difference in cost to them (low or free here) versus whatever fresh expensive hell the U.S. cooks up.

Also, we tend to be a bit more naturally obedient.

Recall tax breaks of all sorts are on the agenda (form of conspiracy) especially to benefit those that the numbers best comfort!

"Whatever vaccine we get in this first round — unless it's a miracle — it's not going to be perfect," says Clark, whose company began trials for its proposed vaccine in Quebec City.

"It's going to have to undergo development, it's going to take probably years to come up with an understanding of the right vaccine, the right approach. It's not the panacea.

Medicago's first phase of clinical trials will test the safety of a plant-based product on 180 healthy men and women, aged 18 to 55.

The randomized, partially blinded study uses technology that does not involve animal products or live viruses like traditional methods.

Medicago uses recombinant technology involving the genetic sequence of a virus, with living plants as the host.

Clark says the plant-based approach is significantly faster and offers more consistent results than egg-based or cell-based methods.

It's the same method Medicago has used for a proposed seasonal flu vaccine that Clark says is currently being reviewed by Health Canada.

If approved, Clark says it would be the first plant-based vaccine in the world.

The trial will evaluate three different dosages alone, or with one of two adjuvants provided by GlaxoSmithKline and Dynavax.

He hopes to know the safety of the product, as well as effectiveness of the adjuvants and dosing by October.

Based on that, researchers would kick off a second, more targeted trial phase involving about 1,000 participants.

If that's successful, Clark says a third phase would involve about 15,000 to 20,000 subjects, include older cohorts, and may be a global study, depending on circumstances of the pandemic by then.

If the vaccine proves effective, Clark points to another uncertainty.

Because the company's commercial plant is across the border in Durham, N.C., he says there's no guarantee of a Canadian supply.

"'Guarantee' is a strong word," says Clark. "Strange things happen to borders in the context of a pandemic." ...

Pressure on Medicago to complete construction of a large-scale manufacturing facility in its home base of Quebec City.

"There's no guarantee on the easy flow of materials back and forth across the border should we have a successful vaccine. We have to keep the focus on completing the Canadian facility so that we have domestic capacity. I think this is what most countries are concerned about."

By end of 2023, the Quebec City plant is expected to be able to produce up to one billion doses of a COVID-19 vaccine annually.

This community has been asking for a response to the Coronavirus.

While I strongly believe that there is too much bandwidth of the collective human consciousness being spent on this topic, I will try to help us move on to apply our great capacity and ingenuity to fulfill the deep purpose that we each have at this tipping point of humankind.

Respiratory infection is one of the most common causes of death worldwide for children and adults and thus has claimed the lives of many thousands of people in the recent months. Each year, the vast variety of microbial sources for these infections varies. This year, a proportion of our global deaths from pneumonia will include the presence of COVID-19 (not likely to be the cause of death – just as with influenza, it is the secondary bacterial infections that typically are the cause of the death).

The loss of these loved ones has a profound impact on their families, friends and colleagues regardless of the vector.

COVID-19 seems merciful in the sparing of children and young adults, but we should be saddened by the loss of our elders in a Western culture that has long forgotten to see, respect, and give close ear to our elders.

I don't think THIS community has been asking for this- are you advertising for this fellow, @Ritafee , or criticizing that he is trying to sell his vitamins this way? It would be helpful if you would clarify the quotes you put here with why you are quoting...

Yes, like our healthcare system. We already have some significant components of pharma care in place in Canada. There's the free prescriptions for seniors under the Trillium plan in Ontario, all drugs prescribed by a hospital are free, in Ontario, anyway. And a still significant number of people have some extended health insurance, which means that insurance companies, IN CANADA, have a vested interest in lower prices, as well. Every trends towards pharma care is a huge blow to "opportunities for price gouging" by pharmaceutical companies, which the 'free market' encourages.
 
Who else pays for what the administrators take from the poled system? Bet that they can never do anything complementary ... as they are lockstepped into aggressive action everywhere ... especially with their martyrdom trends! Tap the system dry ... mummification?

Brain drain can be accomplished through the nose ...

Do you just follow me around to find fault with my posts? The link to the Statement is right under it ... it was that community that was being addressed ... I for one do not find the sale of vitamins offensive ... do you? I quoted it because I thought it was a good statement and worth the share.
