Jae,
How many church people do you see ready to alter course in conservational form ... PC's? Thus the stoic form until at least we're out of here ... then epic Urian's tuff ...

Jae .... the age of majority is clearly defined ..... we have a legal benchmark.
Who is coercing children into such therapy? ...... Typically it is those with religious beliefs. The stronger the beliefs the more likely they are to push for "fix my child" therapy.

I suspect that you mean the more conservative a person's beliefs are the more likely they are to push for this kind of therapy. There are many of strong Christian faith who would be opposed to this kind of therapy.

You might want to double check on that. This is from New Direction's website... "I want to acknowledge that people have been hurt by ex-gay paradigms. I know people experienced shame. I know people felt less than. I know that some people’s faith never recovered from the experience. This causes me deep grief and motivates me to be very clear that New Direction does not promote an ex-gay mindset. We want to be part of the movement within the Christian community that recognizes and affirms the full humanity, worth and dignity of our LGBTQ+ sisters and brothers (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer)." No. As we have seen two 11 year old were given court permission tto opt out of medical treatment.

Children were able to consent to medical treatment at 14 before. I dont recall hearing that had changed.

And if course places like plannned parenthood allowd children to get birth control without their parents consent. I did at 15

It could become the same issue we have talked about before in the case of the children taken from chemo.

What control do parents have over their children. I dont think its clear.

Children i believe , need to be financially supported until 16. But they can declare autonomy legally and live alone. They can then collect welfare while attending school.

I agree this abhorant process should be stopped. But deciding on removing parental responsibility will be a big issue. I think. Possibly because of future ramifications.

Particularily as this is treated by these parents as a mental health issue. And they get OHIP to cover "mental health "care.

If we prevent them from doing so until that child reaches an age, lets say 18 and then allow the now adult to go ahead if they choose.

What about the parents who want to force their child into treatment for say Bullemia. The child, who has a mentla health issue and thinks nothing is wrong, could get legal help to say you cant force me into mental health care.

Or the child who gets an unscrupulous doc who agrees to breast implants in a 13 year old. Parents try to stop it, child says you cant force me to particiapte or not to participate.

I agree with figuring out a way to protect kids. Just think there are alot of issues and potential for precedents

Just like out chemo cases. Not sure now how the government or any hospital will be able to force parents into agreeing to proven medical care against their will. The precedent has been set
Let me put this to rest right now please....
A child would still be covered for treatment for gender dysphoria however the practice of Conversion Therapy would not be an option. The goal of therapy for minors is to take a neutral stance and neither discourage nor encourage a person to pursue any particular path. The idea is to provide a sounding board and neutral environment for the person to have the safe space to actually work things out. Believe me .... there is an arduous and lengthly screening process for a person before they are allowed any sort of body modifying procedures. For youth .... the only thing allowed is a puberty blocking drug. This simply suspends physical body sexualization. Should the drug be stopped then puberty development smimply resumes and proceeds normally from where it left off. This therapy is a life saver because it buys precious time for a youth that needs it to work out who they are and what they need to do. No ..... any doctor caught doing otherwise would immediately come under the severe sanction of the medical legal system.
Is there the possibility for the setting of legal precedents? .... more than a possibility .... yes indeed there will be.
This is where we need to continue the adult convesations and debates and do them wisely. To simply run away in fear is not the answer. Lives are at stake.

Agreed revsdd ... agreed .... thank you for clarifying my post.

....and to what end........ acceptance that an LGBTQ person is valid just as they are?
I hope so ..... thank you ... I will be investigating this further......
Now .... for the moment assuming this ministry is fully affirming and merely calling same sex relationships to the same standards of fidelity as heterosexual relationships ..... as a pastor .....could you see yourself being part of such a ministry?

If I ever have a good, solid feeling that God has called me to such a ministry. As of this time, that has yet to occur.

Thank you for an honest reply Jae ...... one never knows where we will be called to serve....

Yes indeed :) Rita. I'm willing to go to wherever God may call me, which may be to a people I alone would choose to avoid. I am a humble servant of the Lord.

People Can Change? New Directions Ministries? The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality? InterVarsity Press?

Not all of these groups have the same mission.

InterVarsity Press is a publishing house it has a mandate to publish books. It occupies a niche and attempts to sell to a distinctly Christian market., as such it publishes only those books it thinks it will sell and if the vast majority of your consumer base think Homosexuality is a choice then you tend to publish books which massage, not challenge, that viewpoint.

It is fair to say, based on the titles published that IVP tends to publish books the "pray away the gay" crowd would buy to read rather than buy to burn.

People Can Change and The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality deal with what they deem "unwanted homosexuality." This still posits that homosexuality is a matter of choice and a survey conducted for People Can Change asked participants to list what they felt were the significant factors contributing to their same-sex attractions. All results would be anecdotal without necessarily being factual.

Both organizations say the right things about stepping away from abusive strategies and yet both organizations claim that "unwanted homosexuality" exists without investigating the root cause for why anyone would find their sexual orientation "unwanted." They won't pray away all gay however if you become convinced that you don't want to be gay they will more than happily assist you in praying it away just so long as you realize no matter how much you pay them the treatment might not deliver the desired result.

New Direction Ministries is decidedly different in that it is actually embracing of sexual orientation. Two of the three staff at New Directions Canada are openly lesbian and married to each other. One, at least, belonged to a Baptist denomination that could stomach women as clergy but not, apparently a gay woman as clergy. While New Direction Ministries did have a connection to Exodus International that connection was severed formally in 2007 and New Direction Ministries has transitioned from an ex-gay paradigm.

In 2013, shortly before Exodus International ceased to be then president Alan Chambers issued a public apology

Conversion therapy is a relic of an ignorant past. It has been the snake oil bread and butter for many. It harms individuals and for that reason alone it should be seriously questioned.

I agree that it should be prohibited for minors and it should be delisted as a covered service by OHIP.

Another breaking story...... here in Ontario
http://metronews.ca/news/toronto/1315743/outcry-prompts-camh-to-review-its-controversial-treatment-of-trans-youth/
Maybe ... just maybe we are going to get to the heart of the problem.
CAMH affects and deals with persons from all across Canada .....
CAMH is the "go to" place for all of Canada .... other provinces send their gender identity patients here.
Such wonderful news! .... what we have been saying for years is now being taken seriously.
The young ones ..... we need to protect them .....
I am overjoyed :)

Is this true ? ...

One controversial treatment for children with gender dysphoria is the administration of drugs called hormone blockers to delay puberty. The practice is gaining traction without any scientific proof that it is appropriate or effective, and despite the evidence that it can be harmful:
  1. Most children with gender dysphoria will not remain gender dysphoric after puberty. [1]
  2. The FDA has not approved hormone blockers for use in transgender children—not even for experimental use.
  3. A search for one hormone blocker, Lupron, shows that people are reporting serious long-term, debilitating side effects from having used the drug.
Given these facts, why would anyone inject these drugs into children?

Doctors and parents want to help the child cope with the distress he or she is experiencing. Is relief of adolescent distress really worth the risk?

Most will grow out of the dysphoria. Isn't there some way to work through the distress other than experimenting on our children?

And the neural forces have a difficult time resisting "to do" or "not to do" forces (mediums eliminated to restrictive thin spaces)that fight for control of the other's mind ... assists in building a separate social soul ... the unconscious social consciousness given all the powerful hammering about.

It does however suit the biblical test rule to see what is really in the depth of the unconscious mind ... a generally denied thing as not specific enough for limited authorities .. those having trouble with oppression and confinement tendencies of "brutis" powers!

Does this sound too complex for demands for simplicity? The elevator p'ithchii ... like resin on dah bush philosophy in de cursive events! Is that the discussion after physical sects? :ROFLMAO: ... some are energized to say ... "is that all there is?" Was that tres vite?

Bring on the clowns ... in this heavy atmosphere we need some Levite ... the search for ethereal thought goes on ... just to add to wisdom beyond the norm here? Must be another side to the din Eire Koin Age and the value of time ... until you become a timeless fixation. He ain't heavy ... just AB ruther ... like me gnoes little ...
