Pr. Jae said...As far as I know - emergency baptisms are not performed by Baptist pastors. I could be wrong about that.
I often wonder what people do think about that .I did an emergency baptism in the early 80's when I was doing a CAPE course as a Chaplain. I was called to do that for a baby who was Anglican. I was called into a room after where an Anglican clergyman was ill and was told it was an incomplete baptism. I was a bit shaken but was happy to do that anyway. It did relieve the parents and that was important. They were already crazy with fear.
But it made me wonder what people really think about God anyway. How would a God whose love is unconditional leave a baby out, or in abeyance, in limbo of any kind in the first place? I was shaken also because I grew up Anglican.
I do not believe in that sort of belief at all. It pains me to know that some people still have such fears like that today. The Church has put all thus in front of people.. not God. Certain parts of the Biblical writings in the New Testament were written after the church made these rules, or were adjusted to fit. Humans can make some scary laws to get things ordered the way they want. Control likely played a huge role in this. And misunderstood aspects of nature and life did also.
I still believe 'God' is made to fit what we want. Of course we do that with everything, until we actually realize there is a fundamental truth no one can deny. Thus the Golden Rule seemed to the fruit of any faith as that was when people seemed to live in a deeper harmony with themselves and so, with each other.
The word, 'God' has many heavy assumptions and judgements still hanging around it. That may be why the word is shied away from.
I find it difficult to read God gave the Ten Commandments, and broke them quite often. Apparently telling people to commit genocide.
I cannot put faith in that belief...then read the commandment.... "Thou shall not kill."
The church had done itself no favour by keeping such opposing messages alive. And it has done that. The Divine, or holy, made us thus we each have that spark, that soul, that ability deep in us to love and thrive.. Together. In peace.
The church is people, not bricks and mortar. The heart beats and buildings only do if people are living, loving, learning, and connecting in good ways in them. But the call is to receive, then go out and give your heart to others.
By that measure we live as the church in the world.
Peace be ...
