In grief it comes out how it comes out. You have to vent, to say how you really feel. I’m not going to judge Kilmer for feeling how he feels and expressing it how he did because I completely understand it. I also think what he wrote was sadly, beautifully, poetically, expressive of how he feels. And I understand lows so low that there doesn’t seem to be anything to live for, too. I think, in my case, the devastation it would cause to a few people I’d leave behind is enough, and knowing there’s help, one day at a time, is enough, that I would not do it. I also don’t believe my life is my own to take. It’s on loan, and not up to me to decide how long for. I do understand that people commit suicide to escape deep, deep, pain and they are not thinking clearly due to mental illness. But, when they do it, they take the life of a loved one...who happens to be them, in an altered state. But can the anger not be expressed at the disease or the circumstances rather than the person.
Read all the reactions to Kilmer. One is from someone who attempted suicide. He makes it clear that in that moment, in the grip of that illness, he believed it was the best thing for him and for his loved ones. A person who has gone so low that they take their own life even though they are physically healthy and have a successful life likely isn't seeing things the way you are from your position. They don't think they need help, they think this is the solution. If they survive, they may understand differently, but that's not how they are thinking in the moment.
