When was the last time Canada actually elected a leader who sported facial hair?

Elected?

Alexander Mackenzie was PM from 1873-1878, winning the election of 1874. He sported a beard. Mackenzie Bowell (PM from 1894-1896) also had a beard, but wasn't "elected." He was one of the succession of Conservative leaders who became PM briefly after John A. Macdonald's death after the 1891 election. I think those are the only two PMs who have had a beard.

A little bit of trivia that I have never even thought about until today!

He could sport that goatee again. I'd be fine with that. ;) Maybe grow his hair out a bit again...but...I digress. It has no bearing on my vote.

It has no bearing on my vote either. I'm voting for Borys Wesnewskakimasky.

Just to clarify the terms:

There's no proposal of a "merger." That would be two parties becoming one. Like the Alliance - Progressive Conservative merger. Neither Mulcair nor Trudeau have even raised the possibility of a merger. Mulcair has said he would be open to a coalition government - in which both Liberals and NDPers would hold Cabinet posts and presumably the leader of the larger party being PM. Trudeau has said he'd work on the basis of issue by issue co-operation.

Thank-you again.
There is a huge difference between trying to work with two parties in positions of cabinet posts, ie, a combined government. The concern for me is the overhead and challenges to open communication which would occur in a coalition.
Working in a minority government with co-operation has more probability in my opinion in our current structure of having successful bills and outcomes.

I see what you mean now re the difference between coalition and merger.

Why would a coalition not be transparent if there were cabinet posts, vs. cooperation? If they had cabinet posts they would be representing different points of view in an official capacity - but I fail to see why communication would be less transparent in that case vs. "I'll listen to you but I don't have to really consider it." - which is what I think would be more likely to happen in a "cooperation" situation. Ultimately, the leader wouldn't have to cooperate.

Harry the 8th had his Anne's all in line for escape of a ridiculous situation ...

Speak of subliminal myths ... like the ancient word "an" was a concern ... and made Hen-Rae VIII antsy for change ... few religious people can move on from this point!

Such is the deeps of word as it biers myths ... and tiers in the cups ...

A variety of boobs in the human learning curve?

Perhaps you can interpret I take life very un-seriously ... compared to what follows ... wisdom?

The Hebrew labelled this de athe ... butte of the Joker?

Conventional wisdom is that a candidate for prime minister should be clean shaven.

Believe it or not I used to have a beard. Looked real good too. My dog liked to nibble on it. We called that " noshing." The dog sadly is gone now. My wife hated the beard and won't let me grow it back. My daughter on the other hand came along after the beard and would love me to grow it back. Either way I'll never be PM.

Noshing????? NOSH-ite or nibble ... if something nutritious is left there for the mite life ... wee bits not usually seen by the less alert or sentient bunch to small things ... to the wee life that's a mite-ais fete ... bottom line feast?

Depends on who has arranged the outcome ... some quantum devil of six parts:
  • Up
  • Down
  • Top
  • Bottom
  • Strange
  • Charmed
Works best after getting to know the purpose of the strange bottom end ... pure satyr? Tis a subtle solution to thought ... divined sects? They are not all that determinate at times and can cause irrational behavior ... indeterminate doings?

Saw that. It was in her interview with Peter Mansbridge. I'm impressed with Ms. May more than I am any of the other leaders. The local Green candidate, however, is an unknown to me.
