I think they are calling for -27 windchill here over the weekend. I am hoping my elderly heat pump will manage and that we won’t get a power outage otherwise.

The ski cross event I'm working is a Saturday and Sunday affair. Saturday is calling for -22C and a windchill of -29. Sunday is a balmy -17/-24 in the morning. The temperature rises a bit through both days. We're starting around 7am to set the course. Should be done by 3.

Yay.

I'm great at doing things. I'm less great at listening to the opinions of morons. Especially if that moron outranks me.

Explain anything?

Out ranking morons is the basis of that rule of "Peter Principle" that can cause Richards to eventually fall ... drop out? It is a thorny issue in the bushes ... as Erose ...

Linguistic etude is interesting twist on what's straight ahead ...

Greetings on a Friday morning! Ski events set for a frigid weekend, scooters stuck in snow or on speed bumps, low temperatures and lower wind chills, seems like good excuse to stay in. For those of you going out, stay warm and stay safe. Meanwhile, we meet in spirit round the Coffee Cart for the usual chat, support, and connection session, over coffee, tea, and assorted muffins to enjoy. The tea water is boiling, the coffee is freshbrewed, and muffins nice and warm and fresh. All is ready, everyone welcome. Come join in the chats!

And the world about to freeze up due to fears we were told to overcome ... and yet we cultivated it into Donny Brooke ... sludge flow?

Cold enough fer ya?

Yeah, it doesn't get much more stereotypical Canadian than that question. We are basically going to be hovering today in this area at -14 to -16. It is actually getting colder later (the Environment Canada app flags it as an abnormal trend). Wind chill on top of that gives us -24 to -27.

And I probably need to give the driveway a pass. *Shivers*

What is the brute snowfall now ... given our fascination of great powers as heroes ... counter to the lesser, humble powers?

It is suggested some politicians can wipe out the weather with the stroke of a felt pen ... an impressionable warping of realism? Imagine ide ...

On the access road out of our valley this morning:

This was sent to me this morning by another coach on our team. Happened right in front of him, obviously. With highways closed in the area, large trucks look for alternate routes. How a squiggly line on GPS looks like a good idea to a trucker, I'll never understand. This one will take a while to remove.

Looks like he tried to climb up, then the truck slid backward. It's steeper up ahead.

Bonus points for blocking the driveway of one of our athletes.

Groan. People have funny ideas about what constitutes a good alternate route sometimes. I suspect Google Maps and other GPSes are somewhat to blame as well.

Shoveled this morning. Cold but I dressed for it and got through with all fingers and toes intact. Very blustery but no actual snowfall now, just drifting. The snow I cleared was from yesterday.

Most people don't seem to realise the amount of prep needed for ski e vents. . It sounds loke you enjoy it.

Currently we have a windchill of -48. It is faitly safe to assume that it will get a wee tad warmer later in the day.. I plan to stay home and make yummy things to eat.

I don't understand truck drivers. A young friend was 'learning' the job with an experienced driver. Turned out the older guy was illiterate. I once followed a truck that ignored the HUGE signs saying the bridge ahead was CLOSED. and use the detour. He didn't and was stuck for hours after trying to turn around.

Ski cross is next level. All those features are shaped by hand still. Snow cats only get it roughly to shape.

If it snows, you carefully shovel the snow off the features. You dont want to damage or change the features. It's like shovelling 10 driveways with a rake.

Honestly, I can't wait to go back to regular racing. That's my home. I miss it. I miss the cheerful violence of shin guards on slalom gates. Cross is fun, but I'm starting too late to be a good model for the athletes.

My daughter is committed to cross. She loves the camaraderie and the party-like atmosphere. She's not intimidated by the 3 competitors in close proximity. She's learned to handle the jumps through singing. I almost prefer the anti-social start of a regular race so I can get in my own head and visualize.

Hopefully Canada does well at the Olympics in this sport. The visibility would be great. Everyone still seems to think I coach cross country skiing.

Explains a lot.

At least it wasn't an underpass that was too low. We have one in London that covered in signs and indicators and I think we still have incidents. And there's one somewhere in the US that has it's own webcam so people can laugh at the idiots crashing into it.

Many years ago, there was a underpass of the railroad tracks on Birch Street in Cambridge (Galt).
It was pretty low and would only let one car go through.

My Dad used to love taking visitors through it, and watching them duck.
