I just got back from walking to the grocery store in near-blizzard conditions. My seven-year old grandson came with me and climbed as many hills as he could and dislodged what he called 'ice babies' and ate snow chunks. He wondered why it took us so long to get home! I said...well, going up and down snowbanks takes time (and energy). It was interesting.

Skiing is boring. New snow is so slowwww. No steeps yet open. No kids to yell at.

Don't worry, the good stuff will come. At the moment, I'm betting on this being a rather long winter.

Once one rises up ... it is all downhill as some politicians discover contrary to their vast desires and great expectations!

Sorry to hear you needed some surgery Jayne - and that aftermath of the procedure was so nasty. Hopefully healing now at home. Sending hugs.

We're hoping. We have three races scheduled in the middle of winter, probably because many races scheduled for early and late season have had to be canceled in the last few years. But end of season events are so much fun and someone will run them. Craigleith has a ski cross world cup around March 20-22 if I recall. I want to take the athletes to watch.

Busy busy day. Went to church for 10 a.m. to help set up the peace labyrinth. We've finally got a bit of a technique down, so we were done in two hours, but it was 2 hours of me scootching around on my butt taping down lights. Then off to do the grocery shopping, brought home, put away, then dashed to daughter's to get my Christmas nail set done. Finished at 4:15, whew, because friend was picking us up at 4:45 for dinner then a panto theatre. Got home a few minutes ago; feet up with a glass of wine... The panto was directed by a very old dear friend of mine, and was very well done.

Took my old lady for a light drive through Halifax. First tried to find a TH. Then tried to find Connaught Ave. My Map app didn’t want to work and I am not used to Halifax in the dark. Ended up in some side street, then happened to see the houses on Connaught on a street going right…belows pics are from there. Three houses next to each other in light competition. Word is, they are doctors, so have enough money for it. Good crowd watching and taking pics.

Had to dress up for the occasion. After the first hour, she almost fell asleep, when we found the place, we walked the 200 meters- which was probably the most she’d done in a few weeks.

There is that aura of ripe old wisdom ... it tends to leave an impression that I don't care any more because now I know better?

This is an enigma to many souls ... causing the hoisting of questions ...

hmmm, think emergency surgery.
Normally Windsor doesn't leave lasting impact...though the casino was known to cause damage to some.

My family worked in the casino. Tales of being spit on as a blackjack dealer were awful to hear. as were the stories of the gamblers who left kids in cars, or tried to come despite the blocks on them.

The same could likely be found at any city that is a border town and/or has casinos.

Always seemed to be more and harder drugs available in Windsor than in our small town.

With the border crossing on that frontier, this does not surprise me. There's likely smuggling happening in both directions. But I also imagine they aren't the only border community with such issues.

Casinos are bad news (shouldn't be, but are) but at this point, with online gambling and easy access to casinos that are outside Ontario/Canada's control, not sure getting rid of them or clamping down would fix much.

But, yeah, having been to Windsor a few times and living only a couple hours away, I'd still take a trip there over any surgery, emergency or elective. Then again, I have a bit of a medical phobia going.

Picked up my coaches jacket from the ski club office yesterday. I was disappointed I didn't get my old jacket back. They gave it to someone else, even though I came back.

There were a couple "customer service" employees helping members. One was a younger woman with purple hair. She seemed nice. I was dealing with the serious racing coordinator.

I suggested I didn't want someone else's old jacket because they could have been a pothead and I could get arrested for smelling like a pothead.

Then I remembered it was legal, so I turned to the purple haired girl and asked, "You look like you would know, do you get arrested for smelling like you've been smoking pot any more?"

She genuinely laughed. Which is good, because that was probably a bridge too far.

The racing coordinator was not nearly as amused. That's okay. They can't fire me. And if they do, I get promoted from employee back to member.

For years, I've been joking with office staff. They deal with so many entitles jerks because it's a private club. It's my purpose to make them laugh so they realize all the members are not like that.

The purple haired girl and I had a little conversation after and she's great. The racing coordinator...it'll be okay.

Nothing wrong with purple (or other odd shades) hair in my books. There was a time when I would have frowned but given one of my favourite Canadian singers does incredible things with her hair colour-wise, I have lost the right to complain.

If only I had some colourful history like that. My family tree is boring for the most part. A doctor, a lawyer, a minister, some businessmen, all nice proper socially acceptable sorts.
