I don't vaccinate my child because it's my right to determine which diseases come back

Chemgal: Although these show that there may be some cases of shingles related to vaccines, they both state that the risk is considerably lower. Again, anything one can do to alleviate shingles, aka herpes zoster, is going to reduce or eliminate agonizing pain, increased cost, increased...

I don't vaccinate my child because it's my right to determine which diseases come back

I have done quite a bit of research to find out what effects the chicken pox vaccine might have with respect to shingles and didn't have any luck. It has been a while, mind you, so it's possible that new information is out there on this. Do you have a source, ChemGal?

I don't vaccinate my child because it's my right to determine which diseases come back

I used to question the vaccine issue quite closely. At one point, before the pertussis vaccine issue was sorted, I opted out of the pertussis portion of the vaccine for one of my children but by the time my next child was due, the problem had been fixed. I was also concerned about mercury...

Do Americans and Canadians Have Different Ideas on Racism?

I share your view that the values reflected in capitalism are the antithesis of Christianity. The problem I grapple with is why so many of us buy it (pardon the pun).

Do Americans and Canadians Have Different Ideas on Racism?

In Australia, we saw the #illridewithyou response to the fear among Muslims following the Lindt Cafe hostage crisis. More recently we see the #usemeinstead response of progressive clergy and seminarians to the news story about a police shooting range using the photos of African American men for...

    A beautiful "picture" of religion

I love the Jewish declaration at the end of the Seder meal; "Next year in Jerusalem". I gather that it is interpreted in many ways, but this conversation brings that idea to mind. The article, Next Year in Jerusalem...Really!, captures my image of the best that religion can offer.

    Epiphany Explorations 2015

Today's presentations were important and challenging. Peter Rollins did Part 2, Anthony Bailey shared his experiences of living in community and named "the elephant" of racism in Canada, Gary Paterson addressed us in two sessions and Mark MacDonald presented on aboriginal Christianity. Here are...

    Epiphany Explorations 2015

I thought I'd start a thread to see if there are any others out there who are attending Epiphany Explorations (EE) this year. This is my third time to attend and the first time I was there for opening day. This evening, we had the pleasure of hearing Peter Rollins (Irish but now American) do...

    Strip Clubs

For me, the argument that resonates with me is the one concerning choice. I am sure that there are people stripping for whom it is a genuine choice but the studies I've read indicate that isn't true for most people engaged in sex work, including stripping. Here's an interesting article...

    Netflix & Streaming Services

Great suggestion, Jobam. I will be posting this on my Facebook page. The way I read your post, it looks as though you are involved with the work they do - have I read that correctly or have I misinterpreted your post?
