Not sure if it is home advantage (well, home continent) or what, but we are having our best men's World Cup ever. Won a game for the first time, made it to the knockout stage for the first time, now we are in the second round of the knockout stage. While Canadian women have historically done well, our men have lagged. But this year, we have really stepped up our game. Unfortunately, our next game is going to be against either the legendary Orange, aka The Netherlands, or Morocco, both top rated teams. So making the Round of 8 seems unlikely. But anything is possible in a sudden death tournament like this.

I watched the goal yesterday. Screamed like a madman.

Not super invested in football, but that was a great moment.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of any spectator sports but I do tend to watch a bit of footie during the World Cup and Olympic tournaments.

And we are playing Morocco in the Round of 16. They beat the Dutch on penalties yesterday. Interestingly, Germany, another World Cup perennial favourite, also went down yesterday, to Paraguay. Less unexpectedly, Brazil beat Japan. Shaping up to be an interesting tournament, actually, now that the politics and economics are taking a back seat to the actual sports.

Are there times when there are great moments in what is otherwise consumptive? May accomodate that gnawing sensation that I should be doing more when my labors bave been curtailed and censored ... as it is hard to tell much in a difficult surrounding ... so we often don't say ...

Some philosopher once said if you don't care ... something fades ... an abstract? Incarnates as if it isn't ... so really in the absolute ... we are told to limit your care and just sell the industrious ... thus the infernal buzz of burning will ... can we escape it? There has to be ways ... since we did get into it ... thus outies!

Ever encountered an outDais ... when your lights were off somewhere ...

This is the only sport I ever pay any attention to, and only during the World Cup. But it's always a clusterfeck of missed moments. Canada's only goal on Sunday? I had nipped into to the kitchen to turn off the kettle...

Sounds like a safety issue if Andy Cap did more of that he wouldn't have suffered so many scrapes ... troublesome? Aye 'll do it ... as Hebrew Ayl bounded along ... bubbly?

Watch someone get distraught although it refers to Bambi ... the double ambient ... requiring extensive elaboration ... but alas no one goes there ...

Good match tonight. I was sorta hoping Croatia would best Portugal, but they didn't pull it off. Massive good try. Portugal the better opponent for the 16.

Welp, round of 32 is over. Our game against Morocco kicks off the round of 16 tomorrow. Someone ran the numbers through a supercomputer to generate odds and has us at 0.54% chance of winning the tournament. As the biggest footie fan on my team at work said, at least it isn't 0.:ROFLMAO:

Yeah, first half was great from the Canadian side. Then they kind of fell apart in the second. But wow, 2 wins in a tournament where we've never had a win before and making the Round of 16 when we had never made it out of the group stage before. Great show overall. On to 2030!

Next game, which will decide who Morocco plays, is Paraguay vs. France. That one goes at 5pm Eastern. I've seen two sources picking the French as the probable champions so will be interesting to see if either Paraguay or Morocco can play spoiler here.

Oh wow, Norway took out Brazil 2-1. Another big soccer power out of the running. Brazilian star Neymar was apparently in tears since this is his final World Cup. Portuguese great Ronaldo is calling it a day after this one, too. Likely Lionel Messi of Argentina as well.

England - Mexico coming up at 8. I kind feel sorry for England because Mexico is getting home field for this one and the Mexican fans are a very loud bunch. Still, could be an interesting match if England can stay focused on the game and not let the crowd get to them.

Appears to have been delayed an hour

It is wild to watch the footwork of these players.
I don't know the game much but I'm enjoying watching.

The Norway/Brazil game was good.

Have to say I'm totally disgusted (but not entirely surprised) that FIFA overturned the red card given to an American player - apparently after some 'conversation' with 'you know who' about the 'massive injustice' visited upon the USA.

Yes, one wonders how much money was involved. That FIFA peace price was probably quite expensive, too.

Imagine all the stuff kicked about brutally ... especially wild cards posed by the radical polity ... actions that bring on ends ... and moon displayed ...

Even UEFA, the European federation, have criticized it. Infantino needs to go but not sure anyone else will do better. FIFA needs a good housecleaning by someone not part of the clique. I recall hearing that they are one of the federations the IOC is looking at de-accrediting and replacing. Maybe that would trigger some action. Not that the IOC is a paragon of virtue, but they seem to be trying harder than FIFA.
