If it is autonomous is that like a robotic metaphor? Stuff ordinary people are convinced the don't need to know just done unconsciously like that woman cutting the shank off the ham ... so much is wasted for no specific rationale that meets the instance of need ... chaos thus reigns except in categorical imperatives that require dipping deeper into forgotten realities ... many painful occasions that are overlooked ... because ... well it is distasteful to watch!
May resemble the Roman slaughter of pagan Christians ... that were not into raiding, etc. It is a difficult order given how dependant we are on everything ... even preying on others for reproduction, and copying ... a problem for illiterate tribes! Thus the Archi O' Logic ... derived from classic Logos ... it was laid out by raiders ... pure will!

I was always surprised that Muffet the daggit (yes, that's what they called dogs in the 1978 version of Galactica) toys didn't take off more. Definitely one of the cutest robots of that period, even I myself preferred K9 as my robot dog of choice.
Does Max Headroom qualify? He's an AI, I think, even if in the TV show he was built from a neuroscan of Edison Carter, a journalist played by Canadian actor Matt Frewer.
I thought of him as I was coming up with robots I remember being intrigued (if not a little weirded out) by. He was a big sensation. I think I was in grade 8. But then, I think he did Pepsi (or was it Coca Cola?) ads which ruined it a bit. Fun fact: for a while, Don Mattrick was a client of my dad :3 i remember some of his computer games he gave us, including his and his budd Jeff Sember's then most professional one, Evolution :3

I forgot about that, too. I think I saw it on VHS, or maybe on TV a couple of years after. It wasn’t a big box office hit, I don’t think. Lol. One of Ally Sheedy’s least memorable movies.

I saw it in theater. It was an entertaining little movie but I probably should have waited for video. Johnny Five is a fun robot character at least.
Is a fun robot something forbode by the serious outside forces? Truly strange form some points ...
Are there directives about respect of the alien? Well there ... that's deep ...

I've talked about Questionable Content before. It's a webcomic by Jeph Jacques (American but currently residing in Nova Scotia, IIRC) set in an alternate universe where AIs and humans live alongside each other. There's some really memorable AI characters in it.
Bubbles is a former military combat robot now in a lesbian relationship with one of the original female leads. The couple also co-own and operate a robot body repair and modification business. Oddly for an ex-soldier, she's a rather quiet, softspoken sort who is wise and witty.
Yay Newfriend is a bizarre AI with a whacked out personality and an incredible ego. Basically a narcissist but in a non-destructive way and improving with time. At one point, they had multiple selves but recently they merged down to just one.
And the original AI from the series, Pintsize, a robot with the maturity level of a teenager and a libido to match. Started as an obvious robot but got a more human-looking body later on.
And there's Cubetown (located on an old oil platform off Nova Scotia), where Claire, the current partner of original character Marten, is now the "librarian" (which is really more of a CEO). It's "ruled" by a very powerful AI called The Director, who can extrude weird, eccentric AIs with gelatinous bodies known as Morays. "Ruled" is in quotes because the Director is not terribly competent, leaving Claire a pile of messes to clean up after she takes the job. One of the Morays is a major character at the moment.
And, to be honest, some of the human characters make the AIs look positively normal and sane (except Yay, no one can top Yay for sheer eccentricity).
One interesting conceit of the series: speech bubbles for humans are rounded, speech bubble for AIs are square. They have different fonts, too.

I like these guys. This song was poppier than I expected.
