It is where community and mental health records are - I googled the address and “mental health”. It’s their corporate HQ - or one of them - looks like. I don’t know if there’s any correlation to be concerned about - and maybe the formal request for information filed by BC Catholic News will give clarification as to what Horizon Space is - if it is actually an undisclosed stand-alone MAiD facility. It is just a bit eerie, as of now.

This is a whole lot of fear mongering.
Does anybody see a sign on the door saying “ come on in, free MAID”?
What makes you think people actually know what this location is for? Why should that invite anybody to choose MAID any more than the general knowledge that MAID exists?
As the only factual info states at the end of this article, 88.9% of MAID is done in facilities and other places.
The MAID team will need to have offices somewhere, so does a palliative care team. It doesn’t have to be in a hospital.
Do you really think that they do MAID there and then use the same elevator for the body that brings the dialysis patients to their treatment? Nothing about that said in the article. I wonder why.

No one could confirm was a maid location coz there was no signage

The dialysis patients wouldn't know.

With the amount of medications pumped into people for MAID, the kidneys would be the last thing useful from MAID patients. Maybe the cornea. However, in an office setting, not likely that anybody wanting to donate his organs would be doing it there.
I am surprised how emotional people react on an article clearly written to provoke exactly those emotions.
 
Just so you know, if you don't. Dialysis is a time consuming PITA which only prevents you from actively dying. You still have side effects from not having functioning kidneys. And a diet that is largely white rice and unseasoned chicken breast...

Would I choose MAiD as an alternative to long term dialysis? Yes.

My understanding is that Maid patients are eligible to donate their organs including kidneys under certain circumstances....is that not true?

People need to know what this location is for. It’s under a provincial health authority. If it is an undisclosed location for MAiD then what happens needs to be above board and open for scrutiny. Especially when MAiD is a life ending procedure and it’s set to expand to “include” a vulnerable population soon. I cannot believe that you wouldn’t question it.

Being opportunistic about offering death to people with kidney disease is disgusting. Especially when kidney disease is on the rise. It’s about cost cutting, and diminishing peoples will to live with the power of suggestion instead of finding reasons to adapt and be hopeful, which is quite frankly, awful. If we ignore this, it only opens doors for worse precedents and is irresponsible given the current geopolitical climate. The truth is that it’s less about compassion and more of a reason to get rid of costly people and I hate to say it but that’s a neonazi position. Too many who don’t believe they could be that because they support every other minority group don’t see what could come if they accept this. Too many people don’t see how they could ever be at risk or be dismissed as subhuman by evil forces, themselves - or their loved ones at risk, ever, either.

I am, am I? I have no reason to believe that BC Catholic News is making up that Horizon Space exists or that an insider told them it was an undisclosed stand alone MAiD facility, which is unusual. I don’t like their position on this issue tied to abortion but that doesn’t mean they’re lying about this clinic or not making an important point about the lack of disclosure. It is bothersome that the health authority claimed to have no record of it or no forthcoming information to tell them.

At … every … single… turn… I’ve been told that I’m jumping to conclusions. For over 10 years. Don’t consider it, but don’t expect respect from me for not considering it.
 
I'm thankful that you won't be on any committee or board blocking me or a loved one from executing MAID when it's time
 
I don’t think they’re knocking on doors but the suggestion could be floating around the place. Also, mental health expansion is coming. Chronic health conditions and disabilities and mental health are not necessarily mutually exclusive and the government is exploiting people, and is set to be killing more people, with expansion. It is not a service.

A person living with kidney disease (not your assumptions about their life) who wants to live could file human rights complaints for such remarks, diminishing them. They should. People should and likely will start getting pretty upset about assumptions and judgments made about their lives. That is feeding injustice. It feeds into how policy is made to support people (or not).
 
It’s this attitude that lurks beneath track 2 MAiD policy. It’s here. It’s always been here. MAiD policy gives it permission to rear its ugly head. Please be aware if you are not already. The problem is not about the severity of the non-fatal disability, the problem is with the bigotry about the worth of disabled lives.

Everyone will most likely acquire some disability as they age. Beware that - through ignoring the “slippery slope” and the political climate, nobody ends up in a position where you want to adapt your life as you age, but by that time things have gotten so abjectly bigoted the govt won’t let you. Beware that it doesn’t become a pretext for diminishing the lives of other marginalized groups with higher rates of disability, including (but not only) discrimination related depression, hopelessness, existential anxiety, and such. Right now you might think it’s okay to make assumptions about the dignity of other lives and what makes them meaningful but you might not appreciate it, if it’s ever done to you.

Also, just so you know, if you don’t …what you are saying about renal diet isn’t even true. Yet you were confidently projecting onto others your assumptions, as though they were certain fact, essentially saying you’d rather die if you were them - and you fail to see the problem with that apparently.

These recipes look healthy and tasty. I’d love to eat this way. Every kidney foundation I looked up has lots. No plain chicken and white rice on the menu that I can see. That is an assumption you made, probably anecdotally, that insults the lives of real people you don’t know who have things to do and joys to live for.

There are people that believe there are no conflicts in life ... as in life itself being debatable?

Thus a large dead component! Is that itself debatable ... even making the wheels turn. The eddy fix ... shun that or you could get sucked into the thing as it stirs ... disturbing!

Maybe to entertain whatever is beyond us and yet to come ... as returning rejects? Wouldn't that irritate those that believed themselves leading ...

Some comprehensions just follow ... astounded by what was laid out before them! I sense considerable isolation ...
