Why is there parking at pubs?

Kimmio. Does everybody who goes to a pub drink alcohol? Do some people become the designated driver, do others not drink simply to drive home safe. I myself hardly ever drink I have an occasional pear cider at xmas, or a small brandy, that's it for me don't like the taste and don't see the point. I've never needed anything to relax me always been relaxed. As the say "To take the edge off." But there is no edge to take off, for me. You not you when you are drunk, never wanted to be controlled by a substance. I'd rather be me all the time.
No but more drinking without food goes on at pubs. Because a person can go to a pub just for drinks but not so, to a restaurant. Pubs are generally drinking establishments with more of an accepted culture of drinking at them. It would be weird to think of a pub where nobody drank. Most people in them, do. It’s why they exist, primarily. Food, secondarily. And minors aren’t allowed in them because of that. I think kids can go to pubs with parents in Europe (?) but not here.

There are restaurants here that look a little like pubs but pubs are pubs, restaurants are restaurants.

So curious, should you be able to park at a friend's? Might have a beer or two there. Maybe cars should be banned period.

Your reply doesn't address your own question. "Why are there parking lots at pubs?

Why are hot dogs sold in packages of 10 and buns in packages of 8?

I think Kimmio started this as a kind of fun or tongue in cheek question. Although there is a serious issue we could address (drinking and driving).

Maybe they should. There are many who wouldn’t disagree.

More people, more drinking, more cars, more potential for accidents. And it’s a public place, hence “pub” and as a society we’re responsible for public safety. I don’t know the stats on drunk driving after going to pubs vs after going to friend’s houses, though.

Sort of. It was meant for lighter discussion. I’m surprised by the objections but it’s okay. There was a serious element to it too because it didn’t make sense to me.

So, ban all cars.

I might go to a friend's for coffee or i might go for a glass of wine.

If you want, then you'd have to stop me from driving to friends houses.

Clusters of cars at a drinking establishment creates more potential for more people drinking and driving (the primary purpose of pubs is as drinking establishments - watering holes - and why their licensing is different from restaurants even though people could eat and not drink at either, the reverse isn’t true for restaurants.) People drink more and eat less at pubs, especially at night. That’s why they exist.

Why can't you drink and not eat at homes or restaurants

Are you well rounded as without corners ...?

You have to order food at restaurants not at pubs. I suppose you don’t have to eat it but restaurants keep an eye on things like that. And a person isn’t as likely to be there longer than 1.5 hrs ordering drinks. Not so with pubs. The bylaws are different. The licensing is different. As for homes, would the homeowner be responsible if the guest had too much to drink and got in their car and drove?

Well I'll be sequestered for a bit if a classic philosopher came in to present complex material in light form ... under a sweet tree? Maple street by another name ... close to ironwood ...

hmm, most restaurants that I have gone to allow for alcohol only to be ordered -- no food requirement.

Yes, as a home owner, you can be held accountable, the same as the restaurant or pub is. "Smart serve" is there for a reason, as are the people who investigate establishments.

Is questioning establishment a no-no to those devoted to business only as an edifice?

We've come a long way to domesticating nature to a stop ... all being artificially bored out ... shelled?

Even the clams are leaving ... escaping confined existence ...

I'm questioning the proposal and the logic behind it.

I have no problem with restrictions on the sale of alcohol. Was (and still am) against the sale of alcohol in grocery stores and convenience stores.
