I'm sure somebody can explain this ( now that we've pretty much figured out the Trinity ;) ).

I've heard people talk about blogging and/or youtube posting to actually earn money ... but I don't really understand how having lots of followers translates into income. Anybody know?

Youtube actually has a program where you get paid for advertising on your channel based on how many views you get. There's people who make a pretty living just off of that. This article is a year old but gives you an idea of what is possible. Keep in mind, though, that this is not necessarily "easy money". Some of these guys are putting out weekly or even daily videos to accomplish this. "Let's play" game commentators, for instance, record their game play and then edit it with commentary to post. That can be a fair bit of work based on the ones my son used to watch. Then there's Smosh (Google them) who run multiple channels and are even looking to break out into conventional television.

There is a documentary on Netflix that explains this pretty well, I'll see if I can find the name of it when I'm home.

I think that if you want to really learn how to do something when you know BUPKIS, go right to the experts:

Two people who make a living off of the 'net that offer some free advice on how they do it:

Also I heartily recommend Scott Adams' book "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big: Kind of the Story of My Life"

I also heartily recommend everybody who wants to (since programming is how the 'net works) to learn programming:

https://www.codecademy.com/ is a nice site to begin to learn step by step with actual practical work. i suggest you actually sign up, then the site will keep track of your progress :3

The best way to make money while blogging is to NOT try but rather use the portal as an expression of your passion for something real - for example maybe you sell art on Etsy so you blog about your pieces and give them more authenticity. Or maybe you throw bachelor parties so you blog about your latest bash and in t6his way you share your zeal and its infectious and I remember you and buy your art and hire your services.

See, that's marketing that I can get behind. Talk about why and how you do it, not just push the product.

PS. Nice to see you posting again @roberrific

Well this is definitely a subject i know something about. I've had an antiques blog for almost ten years - dumpdiggers blogspot ca
And all I do is write about bottle shows and historal anecdotes and cool antiques that I see in my life. People are like... why dont you get your own dot com ? and I tell them there's no money coming in from Dumpdiggers - i got kicked of ad sense when a hater clicked my ad a thousand times - so I just do it for fun. I like to write, as you can see... and the blog is better for it. Its real and there are no ads or even text link ads (well they're rare) in the posts. Its a labour of love - all the best blogs are..

(It's also the best way to evangelize.)

Crass as it may sound to some, "evangelism" is really Christian-speak for "marketing" and a lot of truths from one apply to the other. There's good reason why the spokespeople who do blogging, tweeting, speaking at conferences, and so on at a lot of organizations are now called "Evangelists"

For instance, astronomy blogger Emily Lakdawalla holds the title of "Senior Editor and Planetary Evangelist" at the Planetary Society, a space advocacy group founded by Carl Sagan and currently headed by Bill Nye.

Bill Nye? He's a good choice for that role. Not only does he hold a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, but he also used to play a scientist on television.

Actually, his connections to astronomy and space travel go back a long way. He took a course with Sagan while studying at Cornell, worked as an aeronautics consultant (after starting his working life at Boeing), and developed a sundial device for calibrating time on the Mars rovers.

Had Assah ... is an old word for marketing of mind numbing sports in powerful (july'n) Hebrew!

Is that aD Hoc or just peculiar observation about things not usually seen ... un-scene absence? Word is peculiar eh bi ...

Wonderful.

Great.

More accurately, he worked on a team that developed it. "The sundial design team[2] included Bill Nye 'The Science Guy,' space artist Jon Lomberg, and astronomers Woodruff Sullivan, Steve Squyres, James Bell and Tyler Nordgren. CAD design and drawings were done by Jason Suchman." - source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MarsDial

No doubt Nye's Bachelors-level knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and his experience playing a scientist on television proved indispensable to the team though. Good thing he was there to guide astronomers such as Sullivan, Squyres, Bell, and Nordgren.

I've been writing a blog since 2004. It takes a lot of time to get to a place where brands want to work with you. You need to build up a community of people (readers and social media followers) who want to read your blog and then share your writing on their social media networks. Once brands notice you, then you can work out the terms of your blogging relationship.

I think you put a space before "M" in your url above. May want to edit it while the window is open.
