Am I the only one who enjoys going to the movies? There don't seem to be too many who do these days. I'm currently at a cinema to see Moana 2. I have a couple of hours to fill in before my next class in the same office complex, so I'm here. The fun thing is, I never saw Moana (1). My favorite movie critics says that this one is almost as good as the first one, but that a few of the songs are weaker. That, of course, is no big deal to me.
The movie that's getting most of the buzz these days is Wicked. That's a movie I have zero interest in seeing since the premise is trash.
A movie I'm really looking forward to is next year's Snow White. I'm a huge fan of Rachel Ziegler
Is that where dust bunnies come from? I though Santa Clause left them for Ja, or Yah ... sometimes Oriyah, Orion or the great bore ... base for a profound myth about things unending ... so it goes ... ad continuum? (that's the Latin stretch o' vite!)

My favorite movie is 'the Mission," starring Robert DE Niro and Jeremy irons. Liam Neeson plays a minor role. It's based on the true story of Jesuit efforts to convert Amazon Indians at the same time the Spanish and Portuguese were trying to enslave them. It's the ultimate portrayal of the cost of discipleship and it contains the most moving conversion scene ever put on the big scree. It won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
My 2nd favorite movie is "Schindler's List" starring Liam Neeson, the true story of how Oscar Schindler connived with the Nazis to save about 1,500 Jews from the death camps. It's considered one of the greatest movies of all time.

What has replaced going to the movies for you? Is it the streaming services? We were on Netflix for a trial period but opted not to renew because we didn't really watch it all that much

I used to be big on musicals but I have not so much as listened to the original cast recording of Wicked and, indeed, any recent musicals. My favourites still date back to the seventies and eighties.
I have not been to a theater, or even watched many movies, in a long time. My wife usually watch at home and, to be honest, our taste in films is rather different so even that doesn't happen much anymore. Woody Allen was one of the few things we agreed on in film. She's away for a few days next week so maybe I'll sneak in a viewing of the latest Godzilla (Godzilla Minus One, the latest Japanese one, not the Monsterverse) or something like that, which I know would not be her cuppa.

Ah, to have an excuse to go to Disney movies again. Though I'm finding Disney has largely fallen prey to corporate cynicism, milking everything they own for every penny they can get. I mean, did Moana really need a sequel? I am rather surprised they haven't taken all their old fairy tale based films to try to build a "franchise" or "cinematic universe" out of them. Then again, I am a fan of two of the biggest and oldest cinematic universes, namely James Bond and Godzilla.

I watched a few movies on the plane.
I recommend two of the movies to others.
The first is The Wild Robot . A delightful story of growth and friendship
The second is The Outrun
I am surprised it didn't get any Oscar nominations. I loved the storytelling, the story, the approach to challenging topics, and the acting.

Yesterday I watched a doc on TV
rg - This Film is Garbage. Really well done - informative, not scolding, with lots of suggestions about what we can do to improve our habits that produce waste. I'm grateful we still have organizations such as TV Ontario in service of the common good. (that's weird - I entered TVO . org - but without spaces & WC insisted on inserting that face! )

Varies with time and mood, but I kind of always seem to end up back at Casablanca. I know that seems weird for a guy known to be an s-f and fantasy guy, but it's just such a wonderful piece of work from the script to the acting to the direction that gets the mood just right. It's how a movie should be made.
That said, I don't tend to have a single favourite, but "my favourite s-f movie", "my favourite vampire movie", "my favourite monster stomping cities into the ground movie" and so on. (for the record, they are The Quiet Earth, Nosferatu (1922), and Gojira (the 1954 Japanese original Godzilla).
I haven't seen any recently. Don't get out to the movies or really spend the time to watch them on streaming.
Can't think of any right now but January-February is usually a slow season for the movies. Haven't seen the new remake of Nosferatu yet and that would be a recent one.
I looked at a list of what's coming up and don't see much exciting to me. Jurassic World : Rebirth might be interesting since Gareth Edwards, who directed the 2014 Godzilla and Star Wars : Rogue One, both of which I like, is on board. There's a new remake of Bride of Frankenstein coming with Christian Bale as Frankenstein's Monster which kind of intrigues me. But nothing that really screams "SEE ME!!!!!"
I agree that Casablanca is a true masterpiece, perhaps the most romantic movie of all time, rivaled only by "Somewhere in Time."
IMO, the best war movies of all time are "Schindler's List" and the 2nd best is "Saving Private Ryan." I consider the opening scene in "Saving Private Ryan" the best special effects sequence ever put on the big screen--the American landing on Omaha Beach.

IMO, the best sci-fi movie ever is still Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, "2OO1: A Space Odyssey," this despite the fact that it predates modern GGI development.
