Cats demand about as much attention as you train them to need. I have never in my lifetime of many cats had one wake me to eat in the morning, for instance. My last cat, who died in 2021, was trained to let herself in and out the back door for exercise and to use "alternate facilities" under the tree to save me kitty litter duties (she could not exit said yard, it being very securely fenced, and she being a rather large Ragdoll). Not possible here from November to March, but great the rest of the year. My dog does the same. Screen door on a very heavy spring with a critter handle on both sides.

Yeah, I don't recall our cat being that demanding. As long as her food was there on time, she pretty much looked after herself.:cat: She did wake me up one morning in the summer when the rest of the family was away and I was the only one home with her but that didn't happen often. Partly my fault, too, for leaving a couple doors open (including my room).

The dog on the other hand...yeah. :cautious:

I have had, in my family, as well as personally, dozens of cats. Some specific traits had some breed specificity, like the vocalization of Siamese and crosses, the smartness of red cats, the loyal nature of tuxedos, the relaxation of ragdolls. Haven't had a Maine Coon, but like them.

We had two Bengals. They were characters, especially the male. They were very verbal (yes verbal, not vocal, they had quite the vocabulary) and had lots to say. We miss living with cats. Our current space really is too small for one.

we had four cats. our first was a tabby. he was the toughest pet on the bLock. he could And did beat up any otherS That got in his way

our new hedgehog hasn't come out of its Little house since my yobo brought it home. she sAyS iTs just nervous

Awww. Poor little hedgehog is making strange. Be nice to it and maybe put some food out (what do they eat? Purina hedgehog chow??).

Apparently they eat good quality cat food with a side of live bugs. According to the website Heavenly Hedgies, they can be good pets or terrible ones.

Snoopy hates to admit it, but you might say the same of dogs. :dog:

I have a friend who was originally from Britain and she used to always have pet hedgehogs in the UK
