We watched Don't Look Up on Netflix this afternoon. It has a lot of big names including Meryl Streep, Leonard DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry and Ariana Grande to name a few. It was categorized as a comedy. We weren't laughing much. We figured out that it is a commentary on something. Perhaps the crop of political "leaders" we're getting lately, social media, disregard of science, to name a few possibilities. I had to look it up to learn what the true point was. That's a couple hours we won't get back.

Agree with your assessment of "Don't Look Up". Can't say I'd recommend it either. I was disappointed because I expected more from such a stellar cast.
I'm always late to the party with Netflix. Had to binge watch "Merlin", which is 10 years old because it's done on Netflix soon. I was riveted until season 5. It got repetitive and I just ran out of steam. I skipped to the last episode. Still, I enjoyed it a lot since I've had a lifelong fascination with the Arthurian legends. Very loosely based and characters like Tristan and Isolde appeared out of character, context and story. Great production though.
Also, I know "Queen's Gambit" has been mentioned, but I loved it. Nostalgic moments too as the main character was roughly my age. I downloaded a chess app and have revived an interest that I left behind a lifetime ago. My library is starting a chess club and maybe I'll check it out. Love the game.
Finally, "Imposters" was fun. Uma Thurman playing the role she knows well from her movies. Worth a watch.

The thing with the Arthur cycle is that it has always been like that. Characters pop up with different quests, different guises, different names. Sometimes Galahad is the Grail Knight, sometimes it is Parsifal/Percival. Adventures that feature Gawain in one version feature Lancelot in another. And so on. It's part of the charm. That said, passing up an opportunity to do Tristan and Isolde sounds rather sad. It is the older, better template for the Lancelot-Guinevere story.

Now, with the success of The Last Kingdom, I wish someone would film Bernard Cornwell's Arthur trilogy. It's a period version with Arthur as a "Dux Bellorum" rather than a king and Merlin as a druid.

That said, I have yet to see it done better than Wagner's magnificent opera version. Any opera that ends with the soprano more or less singing herself to death has my vote. :D(y)

Imagine all the folks that can say I' solde on that! Especially if they believe if you spend more you save more ... a true market virtue ... right?

One could fall right out of their Tristand or other hanging point in des arbes ...

I have a love hate relationship with Wagner, but I do agree with you on Tristan und Isolde.

We watched "A Holiday Spectacular" on Netflix last night. It was about a young Philadelphia heiress who joins the Rockettes. It was particularly enjoyable because we saw the Rockettes in NYC in 2018.

On the weekend we watched "The Noel Diary".
A good tear jerker and story. Not your usual Hallmark fluff. And the fact that Justin Hartly from "This Is Us" is in it, makes it a very handsome movie as well. We enjoyed it.

Also watched The Swimmer and found it very inspiring.
The road to the Olympics for a Syrian refugee in Germany. First part is subtitles then switches to English.
Highly recommend this one.

We watched that too and enjoyed it

We're watching Late Night with Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling. Emma Thompson is an aging host of a late night show. Mindy Kaling is hired as a writer for the show. This is what I needed today. It's light, funny and has some commentary on life

Netflix?

I'm watching the series "Wednesday" on Netflix. It's a weirdly fun show. It's about Wednesday Addams of the famous Addams Family. She is sent to a boarding school for outcasts and sets out to solve a mystery. It's a sort of creepy, dark and sometimes funny Nancy Drew. I'm enjoying it

Jenna does a great job.

Last night my guy randomly selected Trioll for us to watch. We both enjoyed it - it was definitely 'different', and had an interesting storyline that made us think.

I saw that this week and wondered about it. I'll have to add it to my list. I'm watching more TV lately as I knit socks for Christmas. I'm on my last pair so will need things to watch.

We've just discovered Godless on Netflix. It is a western set in the 1880's in a small mining town. Michelle Dockery is in it and her role is very different from her Lady Mary from Downton. It's interesting to see her with an American accent. The cast also includes CanadianTantoo Cardinal, Sam Waterston and Jeff Daniels. We're on the second of seven episodes. So far so good.
