I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around elective surgeries being cancelled. If only some hospitals have ICU's, why aren't the ones who dont have ICU's still doing surgeries? Surely the doctors in these hospitals aren't all jumping to hospitals with ICU's? And a Covid quick test and vaccination would ensure no Covid patients wouldnt it?
If any surgeries are being done in a hospital without an ICU it's very low risk. Even my liver biopsy wouldn't have been done in such a hospital because the bleeding risk is fairly high from that procedure.

It's way past elective surgeries being cancelled. No one who understands the situation is referring to them as elective, it's much higher needs that have been cancelled.

In SK the small hospitals don't have surgeons, nursing staff or facilities for surgery. My local hospital can do very minor surgery but not more complex things. It is those things that are being cancelled here as they need a city hospital's facilities. Locally you may get a simple hernia repair but not a more complex one. Joint surgery is out of the question. Heart surgery that becomes an emergency will be sent to a city. Often surgeons travel to the small hospitals in turn to do what their own staff can't handle.

I live in small town of 40,000....they did surgeries and if there were complications they were sent to a bigger hospital...but surely most simple surgeries don't have to go this route?

Well, Ontarians. Anyone rushing out to buy concert and sports tickets?

Seems like rather short notice given that events happening this weekend will already have sold tickets based on the reduced capacity. Guess they could open up the box office for gate sales, but that sounds even riskier than full venues.

They have been shutting emergency rooms on and off for months due to lack of staff in many of the smaller places. Endiscopies were shut down this summer in 1 hospital here. And that was when covid wasn't seen as a problem.

Opposition NDP have ‘leaked documents’ showing ministers knew of COVID outbreaks in schools

This makes ne made, people should know if they are close contacts. I would like to see individual politicians charged for the harm they are causing.

Ugh, he should not be allowed to practice in any province. It's not exactly like peopeople pick their doctor when in a hospital either.

In the western provinces, a community of 40,000 people is a medium sized city. The only cities in the Ottawa Valley with more than 40,000 people are Ottawa and Pembroke. Hawkesbury is a large centre with 10,000 people. However, the hospital is a regional hospital with about 300 or 400 doctors with visiting privileges or on staff.

Precisely. Even London, which has a major medical school, has a shortage of family docs. My new doc just stopped taking patients (new guy who just finished his residency two years ago).

And I just saw a local reporter on Twitter doing research on family docs refusing to see children with possible COVID symptoms or requiring a negative test to see them, so that's another source.
There are no spare GPs in BC either. My GP of many years retired several months ago. It’s strictly walk-in clinics or emergency.

But I’m happy that the retina detachment surgery is healing as best as can be expected. They use specialists for that of course.

I was able to read fairly small text on the the eye chart. And the perfectly circular area is the the gas bubble. They use that to try to encourage the retina to reattach. He says give it another month. I doubt you’d get perfect vision, in any case. I don’t know anyone else who’s had the condition.

My daughter immediately started in on why I need to move assisted living. Not so fast.

I have a 75 year old friend who is totally blind in her right eye and is busy painting her basement (she lives in Ottawa, where I lived for a few years.)

I just wish she’d get the vaccine. But there’s no point arguing.

Another friend has an older sister (she’d be over 70) who won’t get it either,

Hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving. I’m too paranoid to go out, despite being vaccinated.

I’ve read about Alberta. What’s different about it? I saw one article about a part of Alberta being antivax. Maybe if they’re all grouped close together the delta variant would just run through it.

Is stunning a widespread sense of having sentience knocked out? Then there is the alternate fringe ... profound and requiring some digs ... and so we are planted in this time ... to learn of stupidity, ignorance and naivete ... as metaphorical and can develop!

Again few understand leaving the psyche kind of ethe real ... similar to methane but different ... if you can contain le gassy thing ... some say legacy and relate it to collective drips ... timely weeping as rheumatoid was once labeled ... a mystery dis ease ... thus stressful and awaiting relaxation syndrome and a chance to escape what seems abyss-like or abysmal! Thats the word that fits with male ... kind flighty and supportive of ... well you know! Perhap snot ... as phlegm a derivative of emotional ooze ... raw matter of recreation ...

Much more could be said but it is directed that we don't know so we could act well ... kind've stunned by what's encountered as impact! In some traditions cutting word erupts as a sword ... the Aramaic keh appears as ... ք ... ever observe that in church?

LOL - that would be a city in SK. My town has fewer than 5,000 souls.

Sols; imagine that as they gather in singular peace ... a psyche composed of lost turbulence! No energy remains ... panned out ...

Flat out like a myth on some lasting medium ... it goes on ... perhaps right off the edge of the sphere creating rackets! Some of the more stoic can't get their heads about it ... Flatheads????

How do they fit the myth ???? Something to gather in an adequate grip ... iconic or semi nal ... Null? More pondering ... especially about nodes!

What is hidden in the inky script is astounding ... especially an ode from the past ... archaic as sayist thou' while analysing ... gone off figuring?

Rorschach???? Chach deh ... each in order and we can do nothing to change it ... so each to its own ... autonomous??? Until wishing to atone for loneliness ... alternately some could care less as they are unconscious to it ... unconscious psyche ... can you imagine it? Some haven't an abstract clue ... everything was lost ... that's Job ... a chore ...

Leadership. A lot of rural areas across Canada weren't thrilled about the vaccine, but with passports that helped convince some. Alberta dropped contact tracing (to be resumed, people need to be hired) and testing eligibility dropped.

Hopefully the vision continues to improve, good to hear you're getting good treatment for it.

Seems to be a very uneven decision - allowing large entertainment/sports venues where people are in close contact for many hours to open at full capacity; but keeping indoor dining, gyms etc restricted in capacity. Politics at play I think. The struggle goes on. Let's see where we are in 3 weeks.

Meanwhile in my community - the Canada Day parade was postponed to Thanksgiving, but recently was cancelled. Still lots of music in the park, and big fireworks Sunday night. Not sure I feel like going tho - too 'peopley' - but we'll see.

Germany has the rule that restaurants can decide to only let in vaccinated and recovered people and then can go to full capacity without masks and distancing. Seems a bit like a gamble to me. Exceptions are kids with negative tests and not vaccinatable people with test and doctor’s note.

Pembroke has no where near 40.000 people. More like 16000 give or take a few thousand.
