I don't think Pearson is responsible for a large number of cases anymore, or at least have not seen any statistics to bear that out. It is still a risk for variant introduction, like B.1.617, and most cases of that variant that I have heard of were indeed travellers or people connected to them

umm, is there reporting of covid case #s coming in at pearson ? I haven't seen them provided recently. Also, if they are being identified at arrival, then is the presumption that they are being quarantined?
I see the numbers reported weekly. Both interprovincial and international flights. The seat row and number of infected passenger is listed and then the seats and rows of passengers who have had exposure. Much of the recommended quarantine system is done on the 'honour system'

I think its the variants we should be concerned with now

I walked a slightly different route than usual with Lucy last night, at my friend's request, whose young dog is getting timid about a bunch of things. It was through a slightly wealthier neighbourhood than our usual, although we didn't even get to the real posh part. That's where I saw my first anti-lockdown signs on people's lawns.

Hah, I have anti lockdown signs right across the street.....

Ugh we're already pretty much at stage 2 metrics, fully open could happen in June. This is not protecting the vulnerable. I did hear of someone fully vaccinated, with health issues. His specialist arranged an antibody test, while we know how much is needed it's safe to say he doesn't have enough to meet the threshold with how minimal it showed. 70% with 1 vaccine and not even knowing how well they can pass it on with being immunized (1 or 2 doses) I don't see that containing it well. Hopefully healthcare setting masking will last a long time.

If current projections hold, Ontario could reach our stage 3 by end of July and that's still not fully open, though it is open enough for our Ribfest (Civic Holiday) to consider going ahead with a drive-thru option for backup. Our airshow went "drive-in" last year with only a flying show, no ground displays and no day-of admission, just advanced tickets. Went so well they already have set it up that way again this year so reopening would just be gravy for them

They are talking about full on stampede, complete with pancake breakfasts.

Outdoor stuff I understand opening up. 1000s of people in very crowded conditions seems very soon.

We would go from not being allowed to having people over indoors to full on everything.

Ugh. Ontario is going through three stages and each has defined criteria to advance to the next, not a fixed date. That way they get to see the impact of each stage before going to the next one. Really, it is similar to how we did it a year ago.

There's stages and with estimated dates based on estimated vaccination rates, plu shospitalizations count in. PHase 2 is business indoor gatherings, ie. a resturant,, max 6 to a table. Not inside someone's residence (singles rules still apply). Stage 3 is a free for all.

"I am concerned about the pace of this re-opening plan given that we had the highest rate of infection anywhere in Canada and the US earlier this month.

It's not clear how Jason Kenney decided on this pace, whether it was informed by science, or whether he simply worked backwards from the first day of the Calgary Stampede."

Way too much too soon. July 9th (8th is sneak a peak is happening, didn't see mention of that). If they scaled back much more on the indoor stuff I would feel better. I feel like midway in general is a bad idea - huge attraction for kids, and who knows when under 11.5s can be vaccinated.

I agree "too much too soon" - Toronto has cancelled all in-person festivals/events - Pride Parade, CNE, Taste of the Danforth, Caribbean Carnival etc - for the 2nd year in a row. I really hope these events can find a way to make a comeback in 2022.

Ribfest is the only one of our festivals still on at the moment. Sunfest has a virtual event planned, I think, as does London Pride. But actual in-person festivals are still mostly on hold or definitely off. So there's no real pressure to open up from that standpoint.

We haven't hit stage 1 yet but it's already announced since the 60% target was hit as long as there are less than 500 people in hospital, stage 2 starts June 10.
I was thinking the stages had to be a minimum of 2 weeks apart but no just 2 weeks after the vaccination targets and the hospitalizations need to be met the day(?) prior.

So say we get a flood of vaccines come in and June 1st 70% are vaccinated (unlikely but join in on this hypothetical) we wouldn't wait to see what opening restaurants and movie theaters would do, we just jump to almost no restrictions June 15 if hospitalizations are low enough in that moment.
Only restrictions for phase 3 are things like long term care homes and people who have had positive covid tests need to quarantine. Some vague mentions about large numbers indoors and crowding too.

I don't take much notice of the official announcements of what we can/not do and when. I am being fairly cautious and will continue with that even when fully vaccinated. I feel a huge level of discomfort around my anti vax daughter. She doesn't seem to be thinking things through too well, despite having had an infected son. Parenting, I have learned doesn't necessarily create an adult who accepts your example or suggestions! She told us recently that we are totally wrong about Covid and should listen to her friends - the Trump lovers.

ps - it probably doesn't help that hubby taught most of those people in High School and already has opinions about their thinking ability.
Who coined that phrase "The apple doesn't fall from the tree"?

And now Biden wants some answers and many other scientists too. Where did the Covid virus come from? Animals(bats) or did it escape from the lab? And if it did come from the lab, what then? Not sure how much inspectors would find, if they were allowed in, after a year and a half......
Lab breaches have happened before around the world.

I pay attention as I do try to do things like bloodwork when cases aren't really high. Ie. I went before school started as I should have gone in Sept but went end of Aug.
What everyone else does has effects for society in general.
