Novel Coronavirus

BC has had that rule for some time, or at least a variation of it. It seems to be working to reduce spread.
It seems more like a guideline than a rule. This was part of the step 2 with opening which I think is a bit premature.

And a bit difficult to figure out.

Seniors' yoga is okay? Acro-yoga is not?

Also, yoga, low intensity, might be more dangerous than other things because you're all lying on the ground, with no floor to ceiling barriers, breathing deeply. I do wish we had a more central body making some more rational decisions than 13 different provincial jurisdictions trying to "out-bureaucratize" each other with systems involving colours, numbers, letters, etc. I would like someone to try harder.

The day you tell me I have to wear two masks at work, on top of the sanitizing of my hands to their death (I had a dream about having just bones for hands), for minimum wage, taking my breaks in my car (with it running, for heat) so that I can remove my mask for 15 minutes every five hours, is the day you find someone else. I'll dog walk.

Basically any activity is allowed as long as someone isn't at their high intensity level. So jogging on a track or treadmill if in good shape is ok.

Well, that's even harder.

I don't think that anyone is consulting with anyone who has ever hung out in a gym, yoga studio, etc...

I confess to getting a bit mad. I was patient. Now, I'm sad, mad and terribly lonely. And unvaccinated, when my church neighbour down in Florida has had both shots.

It sure is getting old. We're really hoping to get to Ontario this summer. Our plan is at least the Okanagan and maybe northern BC.

We're watching Handmaids Tale. It's disturbing.

I am mad too. Mad that the government screwed up getting vaccines. mad that they get excited about a few hundred thousand doses when we need 50 million.

We are now green here. People are worried about our weekend tourists. Collingwood right beside us, five minutes from the ski hills , is in lock down.

the government is rolling out money, but we are still waiting for vaccines.
our friends too are all vaccinated. and we wait. And wait

Whistler and other BC ski hills are open. BC recommends only locals go to them. "Local" is if you can do it in a day trip. Apparently it's spring break in Quebec. People from Quebec are flying to Whistler to ski.

An American friend on my writing board just had an adult son move to Vancouver for work and he hit the slopes once he was out of quarantine. Her hubby is a Newfie so the son has dual citizenship. They are waiting for the border to reopen so they can come up to visit her in-laws.

London has been all over the map of late. Many days in single digits but then spurts up over 20 once in a while. Latest spurt was due to yet another residence outbreak at Western. I guess this is why we are in orange rather than the more relaxed yellow.

I was in Stratford Ontario the other day and needed to use the washroom.....so I went to McDonalds. When I walked in there was a limit of 3 people inside. I asked the woman behind the counter why no one was sitting inside yet when they are at yellow level.
She told me that the owner decided to continue at level red with the restaurant anyway.
So good on him/her IMO.
This is another way of not following Covid "rules"...in reverse.

Are they not encouraging people to take precautions there beyond the laws? We have been told to do so for a long time. I would say it's a strong guideline to do so.

Not that Ive noticed......i think its something that should be encouraged everywhere.

The closed restaurants has led to a realization that we are terribly lacking in public toilets. We have just all gotten so used to using Tim Norton’s or McDonald’s and when they were only open for drive through it was a big issue

hopefully cities will realize that public parks need year round clean facilities as do cities downtown shopping areas. In Toronto, every subway stop needs one.

Even in level red, I could find a public washroom and learned where the few places were that could be used in grey lockdown.

I will try to keep conversation here to the virus itself, rather than vaccines, so have removed what I was going to write, and now shifting to the virus.

I am hearing that the outbreaks seem to be variant driven, just because it seems to be more readily caught.
Is that what others are understanding as well?

@BetteTheRed -- given your situation with work, have you had to increase your protection or protocols, or are they deemed sufficient.
I went to a better mask recently, just aware that i wanted to ensure i wouldn't spread if i got it. (it is basically a triple layer)

I am sensing that the regional responses are to address clusters and lock down when they occur.
Our society cannot afford to be grey, nor does it need to be, if people follow the guidelines, and the level of infection in the community is low / decreasing.
So, I am good with having mixed zones by region.

I wish, though, that as we review how we can do better, the ownership of decisions / controls / governance can be looked at regarding where it should lie. I am not hopeful in our fractured space that we would be able to centralize that, though, I do feel that it would be better handled through a consistent message .

I was disappointed to hear the provinces asking for money for health care, and their logic regarding it. I would suggest that the costs they have incurred are in part, because we have 13 different systems. I can't imagine a province like PEI trying to develop protocol and software, etc as Ontario did. Huge impact to their budge line. It would be nice if the provinces came to the table saying "how can we do this better", then, said "ok, here is the savings we get from that, and here is the additional costs that we incurred"

No, we are still allowed to wear cloth masks, don't need to double mask. We do have acrylic barriers on both sides of us.

We have strict cleaning protocols that must be completed 3 times a day (i.e. each "shift") and they're very comprehensive about what must be sanitized.

We have a "store limit", but unless the acting manager deems that we might be approaching it (87 - customers plus staff), we don't customer count or limit customers.

And if I'm asked to double mask, I will wait out the pandemic unemployed. One mask I can adjust to/tolerate. Not two.

My last mask was also triple layer, but, the middle layer was not removable -- this one is.
It also fits better, which i like.

Best mask arrangement. Two layers of quilting cotton, I can tolerate a coffee filter between layers if required, but I prefer not. I clip a mask bracket onto the mask to keep it away from my mouth, and pinched properly under my nose to prevent fogging. I personally, also, prefer an ear saver, preferably one that just slips around my braid, to hold the mask away from the back of my ears.

I went with the Canada Strong 3-Layer Cotton Mask with Pocket for Nonwoven Polypropylene Filter found on this site. Canada Strong | CN95 | Nonwoven Filters | Cotton Cloth Face Masks

  • NEW: high thread count 100% cotton outer layer: 700 thread count
  • Middle layer: cotton blend
  • NEW: soft rayon inner layer for improved face comfort
  • Pocket for optional Filti nonwoven polypropylene filter (purchase separately)
  • Moldable metal in nose piece for less air leakage and fogging
  • Adjustable ear elastics for universal fit
  • Washable and reusable 100's of times
  • Highly breathable

No, at least not here. They are just making extra mention if variant spread. The COVID test will pick up them all, only positive tests are then sequenced, so variant results come back later than the positive.
Here there are outbreaks of the old 2019 original as well as variant outbreaks.
