I borrowed from the library several times and finished up with holes in my picture from missing pieces. I found it quite annoying!

Imagine how much is paid out for an original version with authors thoughts in the marginal Zoans ... the price may be soaring due to elitism!
Worse when it is one of the most expensive books in the libraryRight, but those notes often have value in their own right for understanding the text or the author. Some other library patron (or their kids) scribbling on the page is a whole other issue.

True...we had a brand new and very expensive encyclopedia set - back when libraries had print sets - and someone cut out pictures (right in the library) when I was busy with another patron and snuck the book back on the shelfThe very worst thing is when someone cuts one of the pictures out of an art book.
