I can’t possibly “like” this, let alone “love” it. It doesn’t make me laugh, or make me sad or angry. It doesn’t wow me...we need an “Eeeew, gross!” reaction option.
It is a 'nothing burger' ... look over here folks ... laugh at the Punch & Judy show ... talk about talk about talk about ... anything other than what is really happening world wide. Focus on the 'to wear a mask or to not wear a mask options' - nothing else to do 'while waiting for the miracle to come.'

The age of people dying from Corona in BC is skewed. Most of the deaths were related to nursing homes so that will mean older people generally. I don't know specifics re:BC right now. There have been many younger people who have died from this illness. A man in his early 30's in Peace River, AB is one that comes to mind. Yes, he had asthma. Does that make him expendable?
No, but BC is not overrun with cases like his or any others. What about the people whose families are deteriorating, who are experiencing abuse, or are avoiding or not able to see their doctor for other things? What about young kids their early formative years - 18 months is a long time - learning that this is normal? Are they expendable?

There is so much more to this picture we are not being told - and considering how limited we are forced to be - we should be told, with clarity, before they do this to us indefinitely.

If the picture here is that there are some cases of elderly dying beyond their life expectancy from this - as they might with other viruses and bacterial infections - and a few younger with underlying conditions - but there are great numbers of people with only mild illness that would change the fatality rate drastically if they were counted in the total - and they are putting on this show without counting that...we need to know that!

You know about the mild cases. I know about the mild cases. They are counting those.
No they are not! They are telling people (not necessarily directly but through the media) with mild cold or flu symptoms to stay home and that they don't need testing. They are not known about. Their numbers are not known.

Currently the vast majority of known cases are mild. The unknown mild cases are unknown. The emergency cases would be known as soon as they're seen in hospital, and people who die at home with covid would become known quickly - but those cases are not happening, or are very rare. The asymptomatic or so mild as to be nearly asymptomatic ones are not known but they are estimated to be greater in number, and that would change the stats if they were known. (Eg. Children, who are part of the overall population of people, who are not being recommended to be tested because their symptoms are as mild or milder than the common cold, or are in some cases, carriers without symptoms).

What is happening is that anyone with very mild symptoms is at home and not counted.

Kimmio if we went back to our daily lives early there would be devastating consequences. This appears to be a highly contagious virus. It is NOT just like the flu or common cold. That has been explained over and over.

I am concerned about what is happening behind the scenes. I just saw something this morning that Kenney is trying to push through a bill while everyone is distracted. I don't know if this is accurate, so I want to learn more. If it's true, it's truly alarming. I am not naive enough to think he's alone in that behaviour.

Questioning is great. I see no purpose in looking at this as some big plot.

This is definitely the case in Ontario. We have no idea how widespread the virus is.

I am not suspecting any big plot. Just seeing that decisions have to be made based on limited information. We can learn from the rest of the world, though, right?

Continues the unknown spectrum ... but in light of those that tell us the know a great deal of the control theory ... remember a theory is just a theory! Some straight facts are needed to see how twisted it is!

No big plot...perhaps. But curtailing human rights indefinitely because if incompetence and the possibility of powers using it as a springboard to authoritarian control (I don't doubt there are leaders who will exploit this for that purpose because they can) - needs to be checked. Or the people are just willingly giving up all the decision making power and human rights we collectively have worked for.

That is true and is a concern. And if those people with mild symptoms infect others, they could infect someone for whom the disease will be deadly.

That's a concern.

For all we know, a majority of colds in January could've been covid

They are suggesting this might be the case. I had a bad cold with a horrible cough in February. I have been curious to know if that could have been covid. I didn't have a fever, so I don't know if that rules out the virus. It would be good if people could be tested for antibodies or whatever if they're wondering if that cold/flu they had earlier in the winter was in fact Corona. I'm sure that would help the powers that be make decisions.

People with mild viral illnesses spreading them to those more vulnerable is always a concern.

A more pressing concern since our human rights have been "flattened" is to know if the actual fatality rate is much, much lower once the real numbers are in if they ever bother to gather them properly. That changes the dog and pony show. It changes the reality of how this is being presented vs what it really is. There are variables that change the risk in different parts of the world, too.

Premier Doug Ford has just said that our level of testing in Ontario is "unacceptable" and he is "losing patience" with it. He seems to think all hospital and LTC staff need to be tested, along with all first responders and vulnerable populations.

Will be interested to see how the province of Ontario makes this happen.

Testing for immunity seems as important. Because a person could test negative for having covid, and pick up the virus the next day. We need to know if people have ever had it. Healthcare workers who have immunity are in a safer position to be working with covid patients than those who don't.

So for me, I continue to think we need to not put too much stock in the numbers right now - allow those who understand this stuff way better than I do (or ever will for that matter!) to make more solid recommendations about how I need to conduct myself to be helpful in flattening the curve and not overburdening the health system.
I would say you are doing a fine job of handling your self conduct. What you are able to to in this 'situation' is not at all similar to what those without your 'lifestyle resources' are able to do.

... what has changed for you in this new reality? An opportunity to shelter in place with all the 'luxuries' intact. I am not in any way criticizing you ... I applaud your determination to 'settle people down' ... however ... for some their doubt that this will all turn itself around in due time is well founded ... those that lived hand to mouth before this started ... will not come out of this ahead in the long run ... unless they are extremely spiritually grounded ... their 'reality' of accepting the things they cannot change ... basically means ... accepting that they will be better off dead than alive if this goes on too long.

It is not the people that die from this plannedemic threat that will have to find a way to live after the fallout.

The 'impoverished' survivors as ever are the ones that will suffer most ... in the long run.

Getting back to a normal that was financially unforgiving in the first place is not a priority that we should be holding out hope for.

I am interested in hearing the voices of the already impoverished ... not the 'talking heads' that assure us that the vulnerable are being taken care of ... when the reality is they are being segregated into holding pens ... to 'flatten the curve' ... for them?

I repeat it is not a criticism of the 'good' people here ... we are all 'good' people here.

The reality of this inevitable crisis goes far beyond 'learning to enjoy' your imposed isolation.

I can easily enjoy it ... and still realize that the longer it goes on ... the road to hell being paved with 'good intentions' ... was highly questionable at the best of times ... and this is worst case scenario times. This is the trumpet call for 'let my people go' times.

You know about the mild cases. I know about the mild cases. They are counting those.
And between us all ... we know what we are told we can know or not know ...

I enjoy sifting through it ... apparently @Kimmio Laughterlove does as well. This makes me less anxious not more anxious ... when people dismiss my 'connecting the dots' pursuits as mindless conspiracy theory ... it just makes it all the more challenging ... like any puzzle ... one piece does not the whole picture make.

I agree. It is somewhat mind boggling to consider.

I do recognize and am concerned for the record.

I apologize for seeming to dismiss your concerns. I do appreciate your thoughts and ideas. I sometimes react to what appears to be conspiracy theories. I'll need to consider the ideas better.

As I mentioned above, I am concerned about how politicians will use this crisis for their own gain. I'm also pleased to see leaders rising to the occasion and showing leadership skills. Ford seems to be one of those people. Of course we can't see what's going on behind the scenes. We can only see what is shown on the news and media.

It's complicated. We can't either blindly dismiss or accept information we get. We will be returning to a changed world when we are released from this.

i wanted to comment about this

yes we are not testing everyone. And we should. Or at least test a statistical sample size. Whatever that is

however we don’t have the tests or lab workers or set up to get people in for testing. Yet

so they are making due by testing people who are ill. Agree that gives an odd view of who has covid

however what doesn’t change no matter how much they test, is how many are ill and how many are dying.
fir now that is the important number

eventually they will have the info and the fatality rate will be figured out. In the mean time people are dying and hospitals can’t cope with the sudden surge in patients

i think we just take a deep breath. Keep as relaxed as possible. Help those who have lost jobs and businesses. And keep an eye on what the government is doing. No more attempts at power grabs
