I do not believe everything I'm told. I also do not believe this is for the long term. I choose to take one day at a time. It's bad enough being essentially grounded. I'm not going to make things worse for myself and others by imaging the worse. I'm not going to agonize over things I can't control.

Black and white thinking and catastrophizing are sure ways to make yourself miserable.
Apathy kills. Isolation is a good way to create apathy and helplessness.

I am hardly apathetic.
I am saying there's a danger in not looking at the other consequences of this. I'm not actually that afraid. I am annoyed though. I am expecting the worst (and I don't mean covid deaths I mean continuation of life on the planet) but hoping for the best.

Like I said, we're pretty hog tied so I hope it all works out.

You suggested a gorilla be used to make vaccines. I'm not the most worldly person out there, but I don't need to see gorillas in the wild to see the ethical issues with that.
I asked if a gorilla could be used only because gorillas are going to get sick and die - I mean somebody tested the wild gorillas for covid. They were not left un- interfered with with no known cause of death. Somebody was studying them, taking blood samples or cultures - that's not natural. I did not intend to suggest cruelty to gorillas. I'm sorry.

I choose to not catastrophize this. That does not mean I am not concerned about other consequences. The fact is, we're essentially grounded. We don't have a lot of choice at this point. People like Dr Henry, Dr Tam and others like them believe that doing what we're doing will flatten the curve and shorten the duration of this stuff.

When I was diagnosed last year I made a decision to use my creativity for something other than making myself crazy imaging the worst. I am using that tactic to get through this too.

I suggest you learn about the Serenity Prayer and about Radical Acceptance. They are both excellent tools. Using them frees up psychic space to actually respond to problems more effectively. It does not make a person apathetic or helpless.

I actually think I'm coping well, and honestly, with this. I'm fine. I won't not express concerns given the state of the world, though.

I wasn't a big social butterfly before this the past several years anyway. It's nice to have a few more options though.

What can anyone do about things right now? What would you suggest? I want real actions, not keyboard pontifications.

I do not believe the current measures are draconian for the record. I used that word because I knew that's what you believe.
You know what?...I trust Bonnie Henry, at the moment. I trust our local mayor. I don’t think either of them want this to be any longer or harsher than necessary for public safety. I don’t trust Trudeau and I certainly don’t trust Trump. Or Xi, or Boris Johnson, or Italy’s leadership at the moment. I don’t trust the bigger leaders influence or control over information and experts. There are good reasons not to. At the same time, Sweden, in my lifetime, has never struck me as an irrational country with irrational leadership.

Why does this matter? Because although Hungary is a small country, it is one whose creeping authoritarianism is widely admired. In early February, I wrote about the rapturous reception that Orbán had received at a conference of self-declared nationalist and far-right intellectuals—American, Israeli, and European—in Rome. I fully expect his tactics to be imitated: Anybody who disagrees with my emergency laws is trying to spread illness is something we will hear again. So is Whichever mistakes we made in the past, we are not responsible for them now.
