That said...the kids think of them, in that time they are dressed up, as the person they are portraying. They have plenty of time before they hit the nightclubs. Drag queens usually do it for adult entertainment that may not necessarily be age appropriate, or in age appropriate venues, like this is. In this case maybe their theatrics are doing a service to the trans community in helping kids get used to seeing people in day to day environments who don’t fit gender stereotypes.
 
An event like this at the library does give parents the option of going or not. I have never seen people dressed like that in real life. The terminology is challenging for me - and I haven't caught up with it. I had a delightful conversation with a young person (17) this summer. He had a male name but admitted that he didn't really know what he actually was or would be. He said he was 'somewhere on the queer spectrum' meaning, I think, not traditionally male or female. Not sure that he was homosexual either. The openness was wonderful and neither of us felt uncomfortable asking questions, listening to replies and being aware of the importance of the topic.

Two spirited for some individuals to deal with ... like a paired mind (absolute with abstract)! Like a hill of beans ... some will make a mountain out of it ...
 
Honestly, I don‘t think that kids need to be exposed to everything existing at a young age, if it isn’t in their natural environment. As far as I understand, drag queens are for adult entertainment. I do not understand that notion any more that beauty contests. I would not be compelled to want to teach my kids that that kind of entertainment or presentation of oneself ( beauty contest) is overly desirable, nor do I find men dressed as women entertaining. It should just be normal, if this is what the person wants. I am also not for fan-dom of any sorts, including lady Gaga.
Meeting drag queens in the local parade, on the street, as a neighbour would be natural to me. Having them give a show to kids is not.

And I think in Britain there isn't much of an urge to force it on people...to "make them better" like is happening in USA and spreading from there...

It seems you are suggesting that kids who have broad social exposure, such as hearing drag queens read stories to them when they are little children, will end up dancing in strip bars? I find this highly unlikely as a general trend. Will kids who meets an actor reading a story end up on broadway or in hollywood? Will kids who meets an NHL player end up a millionaire player in the league? Will kids who meet teachers, homeless people, veterinarians, farmers, plumbers, waiters, ministers, sex educators end up as .... ? How would you decide who kids should be exposed to?

When I was a kid I was in the Sick Kid's Hospital for a time while they figured out why I have epilepsy and how I can best be medically treated. While I was there, my ward was visited by about 5 members of the Toronto Maple Leafs. They signed autographs and told us some stories about being on the ice. I never made the NHL.

I think a good rule of thumb would be to avoid the adult entertainment industry until they are adults. That’s why people try to reduce their kids exposure to porn, alcohol, smoking, drugs, pedophiles, stuff like that.

Well, some of us still do.
 
Kids performing in adult bars like that is inappropriate, drag or not.
Same would be for parents who dress up their toddlers to go to beauty contests. You always wonder, who’s fantasies those kids are living out.
