Judaism as a monotheistic religion, upon which Christianity, the branch, is based, is the tree. It sprouted another branch later - Islam. It has evolved over time, like any other religion, but then, as now, there were people who chose to follow Jesus and people who chose to retain their original religion. If you condemn them for "rejecting Jesus", then you are condemning the roots of your own faith.

That is a far stretch , the Tree in scripture is Life giving , Christianity is not, it merely points to and declares the life Giver

That is a far stretch , the Tree in scripture is Life giving , Christianity is not, it merely points to and declares the life Giver

Most don't look at that tree though cause early on there is set a hook of fear about knowing any strange trees ... then there is ayahuasca ... the blackout stretch ... casts a shadow ... ever after and fear and fearsome is a big thing in humanity compared to calmer passions ... less flames ... drink in the medium ... the water of life? Such is the fluid thought that boils off as esteem and ego in the eyes of brute force ...

Then some establishments do not even believe in existence of the cognizant realm ... they don't like to know anything or the consequences thereof ... generation of bland blank spaces like under the power of cauliflower ... wishy washy without spicing ...

We have so far to go in the greater narrative to know much worth to anyone .... or anything ... little more than everything ... tis indeterminate or uncertain considering what we know of virtue ... could raise high feelings of apology ... apologetics from an ethereal bunch ... them out there eliminated ... Aminos ... or Ami Goes ... Neigh trojans ... hidden in the great Black Horse ... wandering in the Knight ... headless?

There's an ale in NFLD that'll do that in excess ... bear with me?

BetteTheRed -----your quote ----- Judaism as a monotheistic religion, upon which Christianity, the branch, is based, is the tree.

Sorry BetteTheRed -----no man made Religion is the tree ------Jesus is the Living Vine ---True Christ---ians have a personal relationship with the True Vine and they are the branches -----The Christians who just believe they are the branches because of what they do will be pruned from the True Vine in the end -----

John 15 (ERV)
Jesus Is Like a Vine
15 Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that does not produce fruit. He also trims every branch that produces fruit to prepare it to produce even more. 3 You have already been prepared to produce more fruit by the teaching I have given you. 4 Stay joined to me and I will stay joined to you. No branch can produce fruit alone. It must stay connected to the vine. It is the same with you. You cannot produce fruit alone. You must stay joined to me.

5 “I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, and I to you, you will produce plenty of fruit. But separated from me you won’t be able to do anything.

6 If you don’t stay joined to me, you will be like a branch that has been thrown out and has dried up. All the dead branches like that are gathered up, thrown into the fire and burned.7 Stay joined together with me, and follow my teachings. If you do this, you can ask for anything you want, and it will be given to you. 8 Show that you are my followers by producing much fruit. This will bring honorc to my Father.

JUDAISM BELIEFS

20120504-Sabbath_or_Festival_Lamp%20LA_jewishmuseum_.jpg

Sabbath lamp Jews believe that: 1) God is creator and absolute ruler of the universe, and there is only one all powerful god. 2) Man has fee will, he is not inherently sinful, and he has the ability to choose between good and evil, and even choose to rebel against God. 3) The Jewish people have a special relationship with God because he revealed the Torah to them at Mt. Sinai. By obeying God's law they will be a special witness of God's mercy.

unsafe says ---If This belief is still in affect today in Judaism then this goes against what True Christians believe and goes against what the Bible says cause we are not under the Law now ------we are under Grace ----

4) God communicates with humanity through revelation and humanity speaks to God through prayer. 5) The laws of God are written in the Torah. 6) The creation of God's kingdom on earth will be heralded the coming the Messiah. 7) There will be a physical resurrection of the dead and immortality. 8) The worship of God is something that arises out of love not fear. 9) The belief that early patriarchs were considered the fathers of Jews. 10) All men are equal in the sight of God.

11) Jews have no special views on the afterlife. 12) The believe in living a good life in this world and performing good deeds that will help in the here and now not the hereafter. 13) Jews have no concept of original sin and salvation. 14) The concept of righteousness is important. A good Jew, or righteous Jew, is one who fulfills his duties with a full heart and incorporates Jewish laws, ethics and morality into his or her everyday life.

“Without the Temple there is no way to fulfill many of the religious obligations such as ritual sacrifices, that the Torah requires. In Orthodox theology, that means that all Jews are stuck in a state of impurity, and are therefore unable to be in the presence of God."

unsafe says ----if verses 11 12 --13 14 are still in effect today in Judaism then this also goes against what God's word says ------So Judaism like all Religions believe what they want to believe and make up their own rules and traditions ---all man made -----If Jews are still waiting for a Messiah to come and rescue them ----their branches will be pruned from the Vine in the end ----that is my belief -----

Jesus is the lamp, the light in the darkness of the soul ... that lost without a spark ... once represented in an icon as Ψ, or Φ as the cult closes up and gets grasp of its dependency on one ... and other ...

There are those that distinctly reject symbols of things that are only essence or incarnate forms of that not existent ... like emotions an intellect that are not solid, physical attributes ...

Kind amake one with interest and curiosity dig in abstracts ... thus holes in space ... Tun Elle Vision? Sheer creation as with Spanish Lace and R's Niche ... a pain in the following --- Cervantes? Thus they joust along ... milling breezes as eddies!

We call them Reynold's Effect in studies of fluid dynamics ... some light just swirls around that have no sponge form trends ... not a Sot that can soak it up ... hard bred? @revjohn ...

With decent stewing some bread is prerequisite ... calves brains, and they split off ... like icebergs ... super personalities?

May be a directing docent (requiring rumination ... that innate gnawing):
    • (in certain universities and colleges) a member of the teaching staff immediately below professorial rank.

  • a person who acts as a guide, typically on a voluntary basis, in a museum, art gallery, or zoo
Science/observation acts as the con ... nudges the rudder if you can see the deviation! There are those that don;t give AD am ... there BS is all that counts is I am ... no other ams ...

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with here, unsafe, and blackbelt.

Do you agree that the "original" monotheistic religion, of Abraham, from the Middle East, was Judaism?

Do you agree that Jesus was a faithful Jew, who from almost all evidence, had no intention to form a new religion, but to reform his own, which was Judaism? There are some very good reasons why Christianity retained the Hebrew scriptures, although Godde knows, we pervert them to our purposes far too often, and rarely ask the owners of those scriptures their opinion of their own scriptures.

Do you agree that the "original" monotheistic religion, of Abraham, from the Middle East, was Judaism?

Not really. Judaism as we know it today is largely a product of the Exile (when most of the writings, esp. the prophets, originated) and more recently the Diaspora, though it is clearly descended from the religion of the ancient Hebrews.

A very good discussion on Judaism, worthy of its own thread,
However I must get back to the reading for today if I hope to achieve my objective of reading the entire Bible (according to the schedule I've been following)In one year.

Luke 16 begins with the parable of the shrewd Master who, in order to save his own skin, helps the employees and supervisor to cheat the owner. I have always found this parable a bit puzzling. Jesus seems to be putting the stamp of approval on cheating. I think perhaps the key to understanding lies in verse nine. The master praised the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly.
Jesus goes on to say no servant can serve two masters. No doubt that slave will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and disdain than the other. You cannot be enslaved to God and your bank account.
To emphasize the importance of the law and the prophets right up to the time of John the Baptist.
Jesus next parable is about a rich man and Lazarus. Both these parables emphasize the importance of choosing to worship God rather than mammon (money).
In between the two parables, Luke inserts a couple of lines condemning divorce.
Chapter 17 verse 1 to 10, Jesus talks of forgiving a person 7×7. In other words always for and given opportunity for repentance.

Thus Jude aches for virtue ... tis a pain to dig it up gven the partisan/subtleties ... all dirt according to many powers above the dirt!

The Parable of the Shrew Manager --- Spiritual message -----when you know the Spiritual meaning Jesus is getting across it is not puzzling at all ----

Knowing the audience here is important as there were the Disciples and Pharisees listening to this Parable -----The Pharisees were lovers of money

This Parable speaks to the Sons of Light ---this Parable is about money ---Jesus speaks more on money then He does Heaven or Hell cause He knows just how easy it is to be hooked by the Spirit of Mammon ---and He knows that everything we do in this world is in the form of exchange ---

This is a Parable about just how flawed our worldly nature is ----First off you have a rich man ----this man has a business -----so here God has blessed this man with material wealth -----

So the first Lesson here is that everything the man has was given by God and nothing belongs to the rich man ---The rich man is only a Stewart of God's possessions ----and he doesn't

The Rich man hires a Manager who oversees the running of his business who he has trusted to run a Legitimate ---honest business ----so the Manager is also a Stewart of property that doesn't belong to him ---- and is incompetent

unsafe says ------So this Parable is about how we as believers who are God's People are suppose to live for the future ------

unsafe says and posted scripture --------The Story is here in these words in verse 8 and 9 ----- Amp Bible

8 And his master commended the unjust manager [not for his misdeeds, but] because he had acted shrewdly [by preparing for his future unemployment]; for the sons of this age [the non-believers] are shrewder in relation to their own kind [that is, to the ways of the secular world] than are the sons of light [the believers]. 9 And I tell you [learn from this], make friends for yourselves [for eternity] by means of the wealth of unrighteousness [that is, use material resources as a way to further the work of God], so that when it runs out, they will welcome you into the eternal dwellings.

unsafe says ---we are not to waste our resources that we are given by God here -----we are to use them to help bring people to Christ and Give God Glory to advance His Kingdom ----- Nothing belongs to us ----

unsafe says ------here is the thing ------The Master ---Owner -----fires the Manage then ask him to go back and give an account of what he had done -----this is not a good thing for a owner to do --it is a bad policy -----by not letting the Manage go that day he actually give the Manager time to figure out a way to do more damage and look after his own needs ---

Here is where it gest interesting ----cause the Manage who was incompetent in his position now uses his brain and prepares for the future after he is gone from the job -----he needs a place to stay ----he needs food to eat -----etc so he positions himself for the future -----He shows his pride here cause he says he can't do certain jobs ---he can't dig ---can't beg -etc ---so he uses his employees as his bait who owe money to the Masters and he uses the Masters business to accomplish his goal ---

Now this is interesting as well cause the people who the Manager offers the less Debt to never ask if the Master knows about what he is doing or why they are have to pay the lesser amount ------Why cause they don't want to know ----they are happy to be free of owing less -----they themselves show their dishonest side by not inquiring as to why and seeking to find out if it is legal to do this ------

unsafe says ---the moral here is this is how people of the world operate -------Jesus then shocks us with His statement that the Master praises the Manager for what he did -----the Master praised him caused he acted shrewdly ------which is the way the world works ---- make sure you secure your future anyway you can and the people who are part of the worldly system see shrew as being good and clever ----

So verse 8 appears to be Jesus commending the shrew Manager ------ but what is really going on here --------

Jesus is telling us that the sons of this age ---the unbelievers are shrewder in preparing for their future than the sons of light ----speaking here to the Pharisees who are rejecting Jesus as their future eternal source ----as they are lovers of money and power trying to look the part of being holy and upright on the outside but their hearts are far from God ------

unsafe says and posted scripture -------The Pharisees miss the point of this parable -------as verse 14 tells us -----

14 The Pharisees, who love money, heard all this and were making sarcastic remarks about him. 15 So Jesus said to them, “You try to justify your actions in front of people. But God knows what’s in your hearts. What is important to humans is disgusting to God.

Jesus in verse 9 --speaks to the Disciples ---who understand the teaching ------

9 Jesus continued, “I’m telling you that although wealth is often used in dishonest ways, you should use it to make friends for yourselves. When life is over, you will be welcomed into an eternal home ---

unsafe says -----Remember Jesus is alive here so the Law is in place still ------the Disciples are under the righteousness of Jesus to do and act the right ways by obeying Him and His teachings ------The Homes here is temporal ------the Home away from here is eternal -----our goal is to make friends to save their soul for all eternity -----

Again we will leave this world with nothing just like we came into this world --------money and possessions are temporal ------

Thus no one should have a doubled mind (soul) that can look at things two ways ...

Train wrecks occur due to vision loss ... why god gave us de light ... relaxation syndrome if done adequately?

Given the stress factors imposed by economic factors ... need one ask more?

Today we return to the Gospel of John. Chapter 11 is a long chapter, and the only one assigned for today. It begins with the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead which is only told in John, although the name Lazarus has been introduced earlier.

Lazarus is the name Jesus gives to the poor beggar in his parable of the rich man and Lazarus, contained in the gospel of Luke. This is not the Lazarus friend of Jesus, brother of Martha and Mary, first mentioned when Jesus visits their home in Bethany. Several stories are told of their visits, and other gospels as well as John. Lazarus is mentioned in the story of Mary and Martha were concentrates on hospitality while Mary visits with Jesus: and when Mary anoints Jesus feet and dries them with her hair.

In today’s story, the two sisters were to Jesus that Lazarus is ill and they request him to come and visit. Jesus weeps two days before setting off for Bethany and take him two more days to arrive. He is informed that Lazarus died four days earlier. Jesus is met and the theological discussion about death and resurrection. For anyone who saw the cranky housewife interested only in housework and ignoring her guest, this open your eyes to the depth of this woman. Not only did she show the hospitality required in Jewish law and custom, but she shows much wisdom and understanding of the faith. Jesus preterm with respect. Mary joins them and all three weep for Lazarus. The shortest verse in the Bible is Jesus wept. Then they go to the tome where Jesus calls Lazarus to come out and Lazarus is raised from the dead.

Word of this sign, or miracle, spreads to Jerusalem where the Pharisees, seeing Jesus popularity, increase their efforts to have him killed. Jesus withdrew for a time to a small village of Ephraim before going to Jerusalem for the Passover.

The story occurs immediately before going to Jerusalem where h Jesus was arrested, crucified and resurrected. Is the last miracle spoke about in John and it is unique to the gospel of John. Remember that John’s purpose was to have his readers come to believe and to have life in his name. His method is to tell stories of the signs or miracles that Jesus performed.

Looks like Jesus has the power of life and death

I never understood that un-needed delay in Jesus' response to M&M's urgent message re their brother. It seems like deliberate cruelty to delay in order to make sure that Lazarus was "dead enough" for a proper display.

I also wonder, given the importance John gives to this story, while the other three gospels ignore it.

Looks like Jesus has the power of life and death

Comes with a flash of insight if you looked into the subjective ... sometimes this must be done from out there (you know, objective perspective ... ultimately)! Allows a dual thingy ... and interference patterns in unknown dimensions and domains ... tis a struggle to get there (hajji, jihad, kampf) depending on tradition of spitting the thoughts out ... some do it like co Bras ... double booty ... equipment failure ... bumps into the night --- Cervantes! It serves ... sight unseen ... the unconscious side given what we know core poor really ... I hear the Canadian government is going to prop corporations again as Capital Interest!

JUst give the wealthy more and ruin the base ...

Common John's seem to grab the Lucid Base ... the demon to those stuck on pedi*stiles ... be still buddy and just watch ... it'll collapse eventually ... persistent and hard gods ... in the ultimate ... then there is the pragmatic clouds ... the morning breaking!

It is suggested that people are born flawed ... they didn't hatch a thing ... thus that numinous Agga thingy ... Ignatius?

That seems to be the point that the Gospel of John was making.

yes, but seems theirs more to it that Just the power of Life and Death, it also shows Jesus authority over Life and death and who has that authority other than God ?, Notice, Jesus calls Lazarus out on His own authority , the only conclusion is, Jesus is God. Furthermore is shows the compassion, love , mercy of Jesus.

Furthermore is shows the compassion, love , mercy of Jesus.

What does? This particular resurrection? In his 30 years on earth, he resurrected ONE person, who was his good friend, who is going to die again some day anyway, and Jesus also makes his friend's sisters suffer for a full two extra days. I'm not seeing compassion, love or mercy in this story. I am, however, seeing, exhibitionism, cruelty, random/biased do-gooding.
