Under the law, there is nothing illegal about crossing a border if you are seeking refugee status. We have a legal obligation to accept refugees until such time as we prove they are not really refugees.
Almost all refugees are caused by the U.S. That's true of those from Latin America and Africa/middle east in particular. Having caused them, it most certainly has a legal obligation to accept them. The only illegality is in the behaviour of racist America.
Trump is playing the cheapest of racist games - and that's exactly what his supporters want.

"On January 14, 2017 President Donald Trump took to Twitter to attack Congressman John Lewis, the Civil Rights icon who in 1965 had been beaten nearly to death as he and 600 people attempted to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama to protest segregation.
'John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad!'
Now this wasn’t exactly unprovoked, as Lewis had announced he would be boycotting Donald Trump’s inauguration, but it was a public and pointed attack on Lewis’s character. So he had a choice to make about how he might respond: Get angry? Get bitter? Defend his legacy for all to see? Lewis would later explain his decision-making process in an interview. His words sound like they were ripped right from the pages of Marcus Aurelius’s own journals.
Lewis said that he called 'an executive session with myself,' and simply thought about what had been said, the man who said it, and what it meant. It was clear to him, he said, that Trump had no real idea who Lewis was, what Lewis had done in his life, or even the health of his congressional district. Lewis could hate Trump for that, but what would be the point?
The following day, Martin Luther King Day, as it happened, Lewis gave the following advice, partly in response to the now infamous tweets, to a group of young people at a memorial breakfast:
'I say to the future leaders of this state, the future leaders of this nation, of the world - you must never, ever hate. The way of love is a better way. The way of peace is a better way.'"

I can't take you seriously when you try to admire a civil rights icon for promoting love over hate. You can't habitually generate hatred and claim to be against it.
At the same time, I know this is just one more example of what you do. I'm more wondering what is happening in your life that you need to post like this again.

A religious question for pontiflexians among us.
Read Romans 13. Clearly, it means we should not be electing leaders in the first place. They are to be chosen and instructed by God. So Germans and Italians were right to serve Hitler and Mussolini. And Americans would be right to serve Trump.

It is important to be obedient to earthly authorities. However, I believe that God is the highest authority of them all. When Christians feel that earthly authorities are doing/calling for something they feel is against God, they must not support/obey them.

Unlike some other people Graeme, I don't engage in what's called "cherry-picking" when it comes to Scripture. Rather, I consider the Bible as one grand story.
