I have heard of it before, crazyheart. I would wear a white poppy for peace . . . but not to replace the red poppy through the Legion's Red Poppy Campaign program, or for Remembrance Day. But at any other time I would wear a white poppy for peace.

I've been looking for white poppies locally for years. I only wear a red poppy when it's socially unacceptable not to wear it. When I was in the church choir and everyone else was wearing one on their robes, for example.

I will donate to the Legion's Red Poppy Campaign but I won't take one of their poppies. Reason is - I always lose them. I pin them to my coat - and soon enough they drop off somewhere.

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing both a white and a red poppy for Remembrance Day. I understand others do though, and some of their opinions matter more than my on that day, so I wouldn't do it.

Without having read about them, I could have easily heard white poppy = peace and offended or upset someone intentionally. I've never actually seen any being offered anywhere though, so I was never put in that situation.

Although Rembrance Day is not meant to be a glorification, justification or celebration of war, I get the impression that it is.

Hi Jae -- Try one of your wife's ear ring stays. Or a small piece of gum , works fine.

A red poppy is to remember those who died in war. They gave there all for us.It comes from were many were buried, and never came home again to see there loved ones. White is also a color of surrender which would not honor, are fallen men an woman. The red poppy on Nov 11 could also mean . All those who died in wars on both sides. That we in the world could have a day for Peace also. Seems like a good idea. On that day I would wear white.

I wear my red poppy to remember those, specifically my father (WWII) and grandfather (WWI), who served overseas as very young men, and came back with their lives and beings ``damaged`` (for lack of better word) from their experiences and lived the remainder of their lives with what they experienced. Obviously, they were not the only 2 . . . thousands upon thousands, and more continuing each day through each combat that follows. I wear it not to glorify war, but to remember what many gave up (on all sides) because they followed what the leaders of their countries asked them to do. Yes, in some instances war is glorified. But it was never glorified by my father and grandfather . . . and I wear the red poppy to remember what we were supposed to remember . . . "Never Again" . . . but "never" never happens.

I am all for peace, and that is why I would wear a white poppy . . . but not on Remembrance Day . . . on Remembrance Day I remember the "give-ups" of my Dad and Grandpa, and others like them.

Yes, Beloved, I understand and agree.

But I suspect that Remembrance Day is being abused by the militarist lobby to advance or uphold militarism.

As a five-year-old, I was right in the middle of a war zone, getting shot at and bombed by Allied fighter bombers. Sure, the Allied planes didn't target us specifically, they were under command to destroy the German infrastucture, and we just happened to sit on a piece of infrastructure, a freight train.

To keep your poppy on, put the poppy on normally and them simply put the pin through the bottom edge of the poppy. It will stay on. It's a primary school teacher's trick. The children loved to take them off during the assembly and use the poppy as lips. They thought this was quite funny. With the pin through the bottom edge of the poppy they couldn't say, "but it fell off!"
