Interesting how different parts of the country deal with things in different ways. My son's neurologist told him he would need to see an Ear/Nose/Throat person to diagnose his ringing ear problem.
My first instinct is glaucoma, but hopefully it's just a magical experience.No. What an interesting idea. I must be a bit more observant next time. They're erratic halos, and I don't know if they're around a specific item/pattern that I don't know I'm focussing on because they seem sorta random to me. They certainly get in the middle of things I'm trying to read.
I bought a neoprene knee tensor sleeve at Marshall's for $10. Actually, first I got a tensor bandage at Shopper's. I put that on over my leggings, under the brace and it helped but the dam brace still slipped down my leg. So then I went to Marshalls to see if they had any leg warmers from winter on clearance - the idea being to make my leg less tapered at the calf and ankle and maybe bunch it at the top of my foot so it can't fall down enough to dig into my foot. They didn't have leg warmers but I saw this tensor sleeve and it was half the cost of similar things at Shoppers. So, on a bench in the mall, I doctored myself up. I took off the brace, and the bandage, put the tensor sleeve over my knee (over leggings), then put the bandage around my lower calf and ankle loosely, to add bulk - then put the brace back on. Rather uncouth in a mall. Oh, well. I'm beyond caring about that. Seems to help quite a bit. The knee tensor gives extra support so I feel better about it being able to heal properly.
The difference in treatment is interesting Kay. I don't know, though, that it's caused by the difference in geographical location. Hope all will work out well for your son.
Actually, I think it is caused by your lack of understanding of the role of a neurologist. They don't diagnose ear problems and dismiss them as you claim.
@Jae I'm a bit confused - the buzzing you describe in your head, does it seem to be something similar to tinnitus, or is the sensation more specific to the head/brain and less to the ear?
To me that seems reasonable to *not* send you to an ENT to rule out ear issues. Not an expert on this, but it seems reasonable for the assumption to be that's neurological in nature and not related to the ear and for the neurologist to verify it's unlikely to be an ear issue. It doesn't seem to me to be an ear thing ChemGal.
Two things unusual for me began about 2 months ago. One is a buzzing at the top of my head near the back. It isn't painful (thankfully!), it is just present. The other is a metallic taste in my mouth.
My neurologist met and talked with me, then tested a few things out. Tested my vision (my ability to follow her finger), and my reflexes. She also looked into my ears using an otoscope.
She then decided to send me for a blood test, a urine test, and an EEG.
Even so though, ringing in the ear is a separate issue to rule out than what Jae has.My son didn't have an ear problem. We've experienced neurologists though - for my son, my daughter and myself.
